Range of Lances!?

hi

i would strongly recommend that lances get more range! i noticed that the great sword of war got a range of 128 and it cant be the size of a lance!(its a "bi-händer" but still...). anyways here are my suggestions :)

1.
i would like to increase the range to a still "playable/balanced/fair" amount, wich could be 135 or 140 for the "big ones" and 130 or 135 for pitchforks.
meybe 145 for "special-prized" models.

2.
and if its possible(?), add the feature that lances make no damage past the first 30cm of the tip. so it would be greater challenge to engage unmounted with lances(wich is rightnow too easy), and mounted against a mob at lowspeed. so the lances wich are great in range and damage get naturally a disatvantage in verry close combat.




would make perfect sense, but meybe it does not fit into the game? armagan can you give it a try if its possible and report if it would be a gameplay killer(like FF in meele) or a usefull suggestion. ;)

what does everyone else think???

I think if the reach is increased AND a minimum range is implemented then it would be more balanced.

I find it annoying that I can be stabbed in the chest with a lance whilst standing right next to the enemy.

hehe...thats why i come up with this thread! further i think it could be, a not too complicated addition(at least it sounds not complicated), wich make it to, an easy and effective change.

Very good idea - It would be a good balancing "drawback" for lances to have a minimum range since a sword will obviously beat a lance in very close combat. If it's not incorporated correctly and easy to judge it could get VERY annoying, though. Perhaps make it so that the lance strikes slightly off to the side? That would emphasize it's unwieldly nature and make them less effective in very close combat.
 
Btw, range for lances (and polearms in general) was drastically increased in new version, if damage and speed was scaled down. Well, now it's more realistic. Now, only minimum range need to be implemeted :).

forget my ideas from above, except the min range ;)
 
With the new changes it's a lot more balanced, I think. Unless if you're able to get some distance between you and a guy, a sword will murder you since it's a lot faster. Nice job :D
 
I don't think you should be able to block with the lance. It's kind of hard to manipulate something that big to quickly block incomming blows at close range.

And I'd say make the range even longer, remove blocking, and add more of a knockback to enemies hit with it... I want to make a hoplite character.
