Randomness of quests...

Has anyone else noticed this, but in every game that I've started, the first Merchant quest I get is an "escort caravan" quest.

I did some testing. Once you get that quest from one and refuse it, you can go to all the other merchants and they will give you an "escort caravan" quest.

Is this intentional?

I haven't tested this with the faction quests yet, but I'd be interested to see if anyone has seen a similar trend there.
 
Good to see someone else has noticed it.

I think it is there to stop you biteing(sp) off more than you are perceived to be able to chew.

Troublesome bandits and kidnapped girl are prob harder than caravan or delivery of goods for a low level character, or a new player.
 
Huh, the quest I've been given by merchants at the start of the game tends to be the transport quest, where they want you to carry a few trade items to another city.
