Randomized Damage System

Hey, pretty sure we all know the situation where we hit someone with a Pila in the head, and they take 50 dmg, while they put an arrow in your foot, and it does 130. What I don't understand is why the damage would be so random. Like I've had a load of instances where I hit a Voulgier 5 or 6 times with a sword, and they dont die, because all of a sudden a sword cant penetrate leather armor and does 15 dmg - While they then attack me with the same weapon and deal 35-40 dmg. I wouldn't complain if they'd hit me for that amount of damage if I had a lower class [Peasant, Rabble etc.] but I usually play heavy inf, and get hit by 1h swords for 40 dmg, while I apperantly deal 15 dmg with a sword.

Also, how is a xbow bolt to the head more deadly than an arrow. Like Crossbows literally onehit a Vlandian Sergeant .. while a bow needs 2-3 hits. [headshots that is]. Plis fix the randomized damage, because it really ****s up alot of the combat, where u hit someone 1000 times, they don't die, but then they onehit you. Kinda scuffed.

Thanks for reading.

Well, i am definately not expert on the topic but i am pretty sure this game has none "randomized" damage, Its just that when you really start out multiplayer you don't know how to position yourself, and use the "strong attacks" and many many MANY other variables at your advantage that other people use and abuse. But i feel you man i felt the same and still sometimes do when i occasionally play the MP. Someone roast me and correct me if i am wrong.

Actually not at all.
For the part of softspotting I find it pretty consistent when it happens and when not, I see no problem there either.

I dont know what you're talking about. I've never done 50 damage to the head with a pila.

I agree with this to some degree, i've had multiple times where damage was stupidly inconsistent.
For example i clearly remember hitting a khuzait spearmen in the leg with a throwing axe dealing 80 damage and then hitting the same class in the chest for 40. Another example is the new couches which do **** damage, with the same speed you can often do more damage with a thrust than a couch.
There are also 2h weapons which are straight dumb broken and go from a range of 30 damage to over 100 (depending on the weapon mostly).
I would also say the damage in 1h melee can be inconsistent from my experience in matches, but of course it should be tested systematically instead of during the play.
I remember in warband you could always do way more damage hitting the head of your opponent while in bannerlord it feels again not as consistent (but again this is just the feeling i personally have).

Not rly new to the game mate.

I mean I've had inconsistent damage since the Beta.. where I hit someone for 13 dmg, and they hit me with the same weapon and same class for 45. And I am not on about softspotting. It's a full mace hit, and deals 13 dmg.

Also I took this screenshot for a round yesterday:

The round prior to the one depicted in the screenshot, I played with a Menavlion, and it needed 4 hits to kill a recruit (weakest class). Two of those hits were crush throughs.. 22 and 30 dmg... TO A RECRUIT.

From what I understand these are the factors that go into the damage dealing forumla:
1. Base damage dealt per weapon (as if your target were naked)
2. Which part of the weapon dealt the damage - i.e. the wooden shaft on a Menavlion will deal considerably less damage than the sharpened metal head
3. Body part multiplier - i.e. damage dealt to head is higher than leg
4. Relative movement speed of both players - i.e. if you thrust a Menavlion at a backpedaling player, the player will receive less damage than a player charging into your Menavlion thrust
5. Armor type reduces incoming damage for the whole body (absorbed damage)

I'm unsure if crushed through blocks result in a damage reduction multiplier.

These factors are all presented in the hit logs on your photo (except which part of the weapon dealt the damage). In your case you hit an Leg and Arm on the two separate hits and likely had higher relative speed for your Arm hit. You also likely hit with the wooden shaft rather than with the pointy end. Considering these factors will help determine why damage is seemingly different than expected.
