Random loss of relation points with village notables

so far there are many ways to gain/lose relation with village notables. questing, raiding, etc. and most of these changes prompt a text notification alerting the player.

however i've ran across many villages where i have a -1 or -2 relation when i've not interacted with them before. there was 0 notifications related to those relation changes and i've not done anything to offend them. and this happens in so many villages across the world. also in certain towns the notable will have a negative relation when i've not done anything.

what is causing all this? anyone experience similar problem?

Its due to their personality some personalities make a dislike to player characters

You have a trait mismatch.

Yes, it is an issue that affects your recruiting; one little mismatch locks you out of a lot of recruiting slots. And hurts pretty bad in the early game.

You should be "reputed to be ambitious" if you have no traits as the player.

I'm seeing this with my character as well. I also have done quests for villagers who were at -2 relation, gaining relation, only to return later and find them again at -2. So it seems something resets that relation or it just continues to degrade over time.

Maybe because a notable was lost and a new came? That can be a reason for the reset.

I had similar thing in one of new playthrus - minus 2 relation with some notables right form beginning.
But I was to busy enjoying game to report it

Not a bug; mismatched traits. Cruel vs. Merciful, Generous vs. Tightfisted, etc.
