Quivers, Bolts & Arrows

Two suggestions concerning (cross-)bows:

a) In M&B, quivers are always on the back of the archer. We all know this from hollywood movies, however, as far as I know, bolts&arrows were usually carried at the belt in medieval times. For example, I do not know a single painting/picture from mediaval times, where the quiver is worn on the back, whereas many show how archers and cross-bow-men have their "ammunition" sticked in their belts or in so called "arrow sacks/bags". (If anybody knows anything differently, please tell!!!!)
I know that this is some sort of "insider-knowledge" of people actually doing medieval re-enactment and that almost any other would be rather "disappointed" or irritated if the quiver is not worn on the back - but hey, I still think it would be a nice idea to make the archers of the game wear their quivers "medieval-" and not "hollywood-style"

b) Am I mistaking, or are there no bolts in the game, i.e. you can use the same arrows for a crossbow that you use for a bow? As you can already choose from various form of arrows, why then not add bolts for cross-bows?

Cheerioh!

Various peoples used different ways of carrying the quivers. Foir instance the Greeks when talking about the Persians specifically mention the gorytos (bow/arrowcase) as on the hip unlike themselves (but the Immortals did carry a backquiver, as can be seen at Persepolis). Also the Mamlukes, I think, carried the quiver on the back. Viking archers also carried the arrows on their backs (possibly so they wouldn't get entagled in the rigging of the ships, or get wet when wading ashore)

But certainly the hipcase would have been used by all crossbowmen. Their rather short length and the way in which the crossbow is loaded would make the back a bad place to pu the bolts.

So, my point is that I would agree with the crossbowmen having a hipcase, while it is of no importance at all regarding the archers, there were enough cases of either.

I would also like to see better bolts. Right now we only have Bolts and Bent Bolts in large and normal sizes. What about heavy bolts and barbed bolts?

The Vaegirs and Swadians have created a back mounted bolt quiver. That is what they use, they never heard of greece or rome so dont have those models to copy off of.

English Longbowmen -as opposed to hunters who used longbows- always carried their arrows at the hip, an in linnen sachel-cases with leather spacers to keep the arrows apart. They say that carrying on the back is a surefire way to spill arrows when you're running and fighing, and mess up the feathers if you move at all.
I wouldn't know. I'm a crossbow man myself, and they used leather wings that weren't dammaged by bumping.
