Quick question about spear and shield.

If a spear is used with a shield does it have decrease in damage/speed compared to with just a spear alone?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.  I think it is a similar reduction to using a bastard sword with a shield, which is about 20-25%

To my knowledge, yes. I suppose he mentions of "1 handed/2 handed" spears and it has a penalty if you use it 1 handed, i.e. with a shield.

It's not like the other arm is used on the spear anyway.

Because you put less power in it with holding it with just one hand rather than two although on horse back you are likely to make up for a it a bit with speed bonuses.

Well, if you use a spear with one hand, it's going to be a weaker thrust.  But if your using both hands, while standing on the ground it's going to be a lot more powerfull.

It matters. When you are on horseback, it gives you a lot more speed damage than on the ground.

Two-handers get penalties to speed and damage, much like I think polearms (no shield)s do.

... Of course it matters when you're on horseback, geniuses, I meant it doesn't matter if you have a shield or not when you're on horseback, because your character only uses one arm. I wouldn't imagine there being a penalty on horseback, OR the penalty is always there on horseback. However, on the ground it definately matters.

Animaton issue me says. You only use one hand with two handed weapons on horseback, right? And I say it'd be much easier to thrust a weapon without a shield - even if I used it with one hand - than when wielding a shield. Try this with a rake.

Yes, two handed weapons on horse-back use the one handed animation.

It's easier because you have less weight on your hands and because you have more freedom to move around.

Try this with a rake.

Yep, I tried it and works better without a shield.
