Right, I've read some of the official modding tutorials and I started modding in a new troop tree. It is finished, and I started a new one.

But I've been wondering:

1.Is the choice of items completely random as the tutorial says? I am almost certain my troops prefer better (or more expensive) equipment most of the time. If not, can I make an item a more likely option by repeating the entry several times? example:

can I make the bardiche a better option by doing this?

2.Can I set a lance as primary weapon and other weapon as secondary?

1.It is random?
2.I gave some of my troops lances, spears and scimitars, I saw them with one of the weapons, never 2.
 
It's somewhat random and the more of one item you give the guy, the more likely that will appear.

I suspect it's something like, the game goes through the list and randomly deletes items, then the soldier equips the best of what's remaining. If a polearm and a melee are remaining then both will be equipped (lance first and melee secondary). Not 100% sure though. You should play BoW and mess around with the Rangers' item list to see what happens with different combos.
 
Also note that, in previous versions, a troops would NOT offer any equipped weapon as loot (I am sure fisheye figured that one out). I am mostly sure it is still the same in this version. That's why you never see Leather Gloves or Gauntlets in the loot pool after a battle. So, if you want a fair chance of all items to show up as loot, be sure to include at least TWO of that item in the troops' list of possible items.
