Questions About the Ladies

So, I guess my first question is, what's the benefit of marriage?  I've noticed from the troubadours and such that the girls each have a personality.  There's the girl-next-door type, the tomboy, the romantic, the I-wear-the-pants type, and maybe another one that I can't recall.  Is there a change in the benefit for each type after marriage?  Any polygamists out there that have tried them all?

Also, I get the impression that some like renown, some like honor, some like property (guessing, mostly).  Is this the case?  Does it depend on the personality of the girls?  And what's the story with controversy?  How does that fit in?

Thanks, help appreciated.  If there's any savants out there that want to write a guide, you'd help a lot of people.

Marriage gives you access to feasts, which raise your renown a ****ton, feasts also let you gather the lords of a faction. Marriage also brings you closer to the girl's family. So if you ever decide to renounce your oath, as long as the marriage was sanctioned, you can most likely count on a few allies.

High controversy means your lords won't like you very much, too high, and AFAIK, you'll be charged with treason and lose all your lands.

How high? What is number of controversy?

abose 30 controversy expect to be treated... in a bad way

as for different ladies, no, after u marry them , they serve the same purpose, their different personalities react to certain poems, and compliments, duel request, etc

so it doesn't matter, big familly ladies will be harder to get tho, or if they're easy to get, their guardian might be hard to convince...

There's always the option to Elope with your lover, I haven't tried it but im guessing her father wont be too happy about it  Look for feasts, Win a tournament dedicate your win to a lady and your on your way. You may have to duel other lords for the right to court her though.

I would like to add a followup question to this. I am courting a lady right now. It seems I got to get her brother's approval before I can propose. So far two rival suitors have appeared, I challenged both of them to a duel and defeated them. My question is: so I pay the lady compliments, ward off her suitors, and all the while trying to increase my favor with the father or guardian. Is that the whole process of courtship? Once I get the guardian friendship rating high enough, I can marry the lady?

I am giving this a bump ....

Thing is I am trying to get approval from the lady's brother to propose marriage but my relationship with the brother is at 0  So it looks like I got a long way to get the guy's approval. Moreover the lady has another suitor I got to deal with. Anyone know a shortcut?

I have a few tips on how to increase your relationship with the father.

In wars, what you can do is join in battle with the father. It can be a land battle or a siege. After winning such a battle, talk to the father. He will say he is glad to be part of the victory with you, and increase the relation. While you're at it, talk to all the lords who took part in the battle for free relation boosts.

Another way is to ask the father whether or not you 2 can do things together to advance together in standings. Usually this means denouncing another lord, and it is a quick way to get relations. I think I got +15 for denouncing a lord for him. Of course, that's -15 relation to the other lord.

The 2nd option is quite a good shortcut.

Well I am thinking I wish to carve out my own Kingdom eventually. I read somewhere there is some bug(?) where after you become a vassal you cannot renounce your oath without losing all your properties. So I am hesitant to be a vassal. I have like +32 points of friendship with the king and slowly working to up my friendship rating with the other lords. I am thinking to marry the lady, then take over a castle somewhere, all the wife's relatives will defect and I get a small group of lords as allies.

Is this being a vassal bug fixed?

btw the person I got to get approval from is the brother, not the father. Is that a problem?

No, no problem. It is the same, father or brother. You can ask him if he have quest for you. However once you are vassal, number of available quests will be much reduced so it it easier to get good relation before becoming vassal. In one case it was enough for me to get relation of 6, then I was granted visits and later got approval to marry.

Another thing is I was at this feast, there were four ladies there. I tried telling them all I was their admirer. Three of them replied it was late. Only one welcomed the compliment. Does this mean I will never be able to successfully court the other three ladies?

You need positive relation with them. This can be achieved only by dedicating tournament victory (means if fiest is in castle, you out of luck).

If you elope, make sure your relationship with your king is pretty high; Ragnar wasn't too pleased to hear about Emir Lakhem's humiliation.

Emir Lakhem would not be the problem this round for me. I am after his sister. This Courtship mini game is very repetitive. Well as they say good things comes to those who wait

I married his sister! So you're the one who's been leaving all those muddy footprints in the hall outside the bedchamber!

Have at you, knave!

Hmmm, I think every new game start, every lady has a diffent personal, not same as before, at least.

No, it just means the other 3 are hard to please. If it helps explain, they are playing hard to get.

My current wife also didn't welcome my compliment the first time. She is the highly moral, hard to please type.

I had the same thing happen. I think you can only woo one lady per feast. Of course I could be wrong. But it seems to happen at every feast I go to. The first lady I talk to I get to compliment and what not the others I talk to say it's late. So choose who you talk to wisely.

What about after the wedding? Is there any difference in behaviour of different personalities?
