I can't understand. I bought it after I got my first char to level 6.. I can't stop playing it.. lots of people seem to be the same..

I can't understand, what makes this game so great?

Well, it's got a dose of that "go anywhere, do anything" feel that TES pulled off so well.

It's got mounted combat. Incredibly amazing, addictive mounted combat.

It's got only the barest of plots (so far), but this allows your mind to manufacture its own backgrounds and plots, making the world a more immersive and personal place (or is that just me? ).

The music is something I personally enjoy.

Coming charging in over a low ridgeline, banners flying, to rescue a pitiful huddle of refugees from the predations of the evil Dark Hunters never gets old (if only we had some banners! Pennons, even ... ).

I get a sense of loss whenever one of my high-level soldiers die. After all, I led them by the hand through the dangerous lower levels only so they were killed by a gaggle of steppe bandits ... (note: loss and frustration).

*shrugs* In another thread someone posted a descriptor of what this game does really, really well. I'll see if I can find it and get back to you.

EDIT: Scratch that, it was a post about what the game is going to be doing really, really well in the future.

But that brings up another point: We know it's only going to get better.

Oh, so we have ourselves another ES gamer, huh? Nice to see someone else around.

[Edit]

I bought the game and have been playing solo except a few battles, and thus never really got any soldier to an high level. Maybe I am missing the best of the game

Nothing better than crashing a wave of Swadian knights into the flank of some enemies.

Until your NPCs start wheeling their horses directly in front of you. That's damned annoying.

Or pinsils, or gonfalons, or standards, or an Oriflamme, or even a Pennoncelle for the lances!

Heh, yeah I get annoyed sometimes when I'm charging in for the death blow and one of my knights jumps in front of me to steal my kill but it really isn't that bad, after the lance charge I usually pull out my axe and start looking for stragglers, one time I got surprised by about a half dozen black khergit raiders that were behind a hill then I raced back to my buddies but I almost took a dirt nap. Very fun.

i think its great becuase it combins all other types of games into it... first person shooter, 3rd person action, (dont know wht catagory horse riding is), melee combat, but its not real nerdy(i got a level 30 magician that can shoot zipper fire at level 52 gargonks) pretty simple not really confusing or annoying as morrowind an be. war leader strategist (like command and conquier games, rome total war), and pretty realistic

it just combines what people like in games, which i think happend becuase it had 2 normal people make it and put what they thought would make a good game not some company...

Yeah, hard core addiction. Haven't fallen so hard for a game for a long time.

Elementary deployment would just make this perfect. Loved the total war series and definitely would like some basic combat commands in here. Stand ground for archers etc. would just be wicked.

Its the only solo game i'have played since many years, it really have something special i guess. But the best shoot is really the combat system, at last a medieval fight that look like a first person shooter, thanx god coz those mmos combat style really began to be boring. In fact so boring i don't even play mmos anymore.

I don't know how it goes in computer world but if the creators of this game copyrighted the combat system if it only can be done, i bet they are already very rich, even if they don't even got a peny in their pockets.

Ditto. I think the designers simply got the "feel" just right. Plus, I've been looking for a non-fantasy medieval game since the dawn of time - unfortunately they're hard to come by

What's ES?

Technically, Morrowind doesn't have a sequel. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and the upcoming Oblivion are all part of the ES universe, but don't actually have direct story links to each other. The dev team likes to start fresh each time ...

The Elder Scrolls.
Ah, sequel to Morrowind isn't it? Haven't played either though, don't like fantasy (not since Bards Tale on the Amiga anyway  )

Sort of....
Elders Scrolls games have been around for a while - Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind all take place in the same "world," but have no connection story-wise. Oblivion is due out this winter, and I can't wait for it.

Mount & Blade is awesome! I purchased it almost right away. Best way to describe is it's like playing Medieval: Total War from a captain's perspective.

The combat engine is what does it for me. Knocking someone off their mount and watching their body trail after as the horse keeps running. Headshotting someone from 200 yards, watching the blood spray then running in close and seeing the arrow still stuck in his eye :p Charging someone down with my horse. Hearing the meaty chunk of a heavy axe cleaving down on someone's helmet..mmm feels like I'm really fighting in medieval times.

Even in beta this is one of the best games I've ever played. If it had multiplayer, better troop management/AI and dismemberment this would be perfect

For me, it's how smoothly everything works and the small things. Like most have said, seeing the blood spray, arrows sticking in people, and the seemless transition from putting my bow away to pulling out my axe is beautiful.

I like the open ended nature, I get sick of medevil games that have a constricting story. This one let's you sort of form your own. I am also, quite happy it isn't multiplayer. Some folks might get mad for me saying that but, it's the truth. I don't need some kid ruining a perfectly good war campain I'm on by typing in omg lollerz! In global chat. Sort of ruins the enviroment the game creates.

I love the way everything in this game works together. And I also like watching my allies fight alongside me. They're not stupid, as most allies tend to be in games. They don't wander aimlessly. I love cutting someone with an axe, and watching an ally ride by and hammer them with a sword right after.

Yeah, nothing like seening a solid war of heavy cav crash into the enemy line.

I always lead the troops from the front and like to let out almighty blood spurts from the enemy with lances and axes.

200+ damage spurts are great.

It's also nice to remember that those powerful knights that you raised were peasants or prisoners a few game days ago.
