Well, once my dad gets back from Edmonton (in about two months) me and my family will be leaving to travel around Britain. We're making all the plans of where to go and such now, and I was just wondering what some of you Brits here on the forums think would be a good place to go see. We're going to London, Cardiff, Bristol, and Edinburgh, and I was wondering where some good places to go would be. (Google can only help you find out so much, y'know?)

So, in your opinion, what are some places I should see?

By the way, Kobrag, don't get any ideas. If I see you, I will kill you.

Well Edinburgh and London would be my suggestions. make sure you get out into the countryside some too. It depends what you're looking for really. I can name some nice small towns and similar, not much to do. I can name some nice areas to visit and look around etc..

P.S If you go Edinburgh you can visit me and/or Arch

You should most certainly see Leeds Castle in Leeds and also Crook of Devon in Devon.

By the way, when in Edinburgh you should remember that male lavatories are indicated by a picture of a man in a kilt. This catches many tourists out, so it's a good point to remember.

Mhmm.

Come to Newbury. Market town, by the canals, nice little cake shop, High street with branches, Castle, nice views, etc.
Sounds nice enough, so long as I won't be seeing your puffy orange face around.

Also, I'd recommend going cottaging while you're in some of the more rural areas. If you want to find some nice old buildings to visit just ask a local where the best places to go cottaging are.

Muncaster Castle, in the Lake District, and the Lake District in general. Hadrian's Wall, and any other Roman ruins/museums you can find. Go to York, it has tons of stuff: The Cathedral will keep you busy for a few hours, as will the Jorvik Viking Museum, and York Dungeon. You can also go inside Clifford's Tower, walk around The Walls, stroll down The Shambles and do the Ghost Walks at night. There are many good pubs there that serve decent food.

You should also visit North Wales, which is a beautiful place, especially the area around Betws Y Coed near Colwyn Bay.

If you're into rollercoasters and whatnot, you could visit Alton Tower, which is around the east midlands, or better yet Lightwater Valley, which is set in a beautiful area in Yorskhire near Settle, IIRC. Whilst in Yorkshire you could visit Giggleswick, a nice rustic little village, and if you're into walking you could do the Three Peaks - Whernside, Pen-Y-Ghent and Ingleborough. There are some beautiful limestone pavements on Ingleborough which really should be seen.

Cornwall is worth a visit, it's quite beautiful in many places, and you can visit old tin/copper mines. There's often lots to find in the coastal towns.

I hear Bath and Hereford are nice cities to visit, though I haven't been there myself.

Giggleswick lol.

But seriously, thanks for that. I forgot all about Hadrian's Wall, and the Jorvik Viking Museum sounds like it'll be pretty interesting.

For scenic areas try: The Highlands, The Scottish Islands, Snowdonia, The Brecon Beacons, The Lake district, The peak district, Exmoor.

Oh, Bath is really super, much better than Bristol. They're practically right next to each other so if given a choice pick Bath.

Another nice town is Brighton, great for cottaging.

I used to go cottaging a lot with my dad, it's really fun. You find out a lot about the buildings, and it brings you closer to what it's like being British.

if your parents ever find out about Newark say no, the castle is a wall now and the town is full of old people. Nottingham? got a castle good shopping and i was born there. victory!

Oh yeah, while you're going through England, be sure to stop off at the Merchant Banking guild. Nothing like some good banking on a sunday morning. It's in london.

Is there still that amazingly decrepit huge old oak tree in Nottingham?

Not forgetting the Yorkshire Dales & The Pennine Moors.

If I can add something to that, it would be a drive through the Nant Ffrancon pass, which is one of the nicest places up there, especially for walking. If you do go for a walk, Tryfan is by far the best mountain, as it's got loads of great scrambling places on it. If you're lazy, or have no arms, you could always go up Snowdon on the train
