Question: about weapons and armor

Hello! I'm level 23, and I can't seem to find a better one handed weapon than 27-ish damage ones, no matter where I look (I tried most of the towns). Is there somewhere I haven't looked, with a better 1 handed weapon? Also, I can't find anything better than plate armor, and I believe I heard others mention some black armor... where can I find it/buy it?
Thank you for taking your time to read the post, and maybe for replying

The higher the cost the harder the item is to find, i.e. the less it spawns in a town. you could also try to take out parties of dark knights to get the armor.

Weapons: I think 27 is the highest BASE damage of any of the one handed weapons... so what you're looking for now is a heavy, a balanced or the best of all, a watered steel version of your favourite weapon. A watered steel nomad sabre is pretty fun... if you find one, snap it up.

Black armour: it exisits, unless you can afford it. It's there, but rare... the stores restock every so often, so if you don't see it either rest in the tavern for a few days or go out and fight some battles before coming back to check again... I end up looking aorund forever when I can afford it without being able to find it.

For more on weapons, check out http://games.dahlby.net/mount_and_blade/ , a super handy weapons guide from one of your fellow forum members.

Ive seen black armor and plates and all that crap in the original town that you start in.......but they're ****ing costly.....like 100-200k for the plate alone......only for the rich bastards.....

Edit:Swords suck I shoot those ****ers down instead

You can buy black armor from the smiths in the towns, it seems to be based on luck as far as I can tell. Reinforced black armor is the strongest and at level 31 or 32 I only have reinforced helm and greaves so far, my breastplate is still only normal black. When ever I need to go to a town for a mission or to sell stuff I always check the shops. I've gotten some decent stuff as loot too.

Thank you for the helpful information!
Regarding the weapons issue, I can't find anything better than a broadsword  Any way of buying a better one? Luck?

The broadsword has the highest base damage in the one handers... but I'd still go with the Nomad Sabre... a lot faster, and a little more reach while only one point less damage.

And yup... finding a sword with one of the modifiers attached is all luck.

That's the only way? Too boring, then, to stick with the same weapon for so long :???:
Thanks anyways, for the help and everything.

That's why I go to 2 handed blades as soon as I have the strenght. More reach, more damage inflicted and with enough agility those babies swing like crazy. Only real downside I find is against misiles.

Just so another topic doesn't get started up, I'm going to post what weapon I use, and the reasoning. For the longest time (two days of playing non-stop seems like a long time, anyway) I was using a balanced arming sword I managed to pick up in a fight. It was good because it was a one handed sword that had decent base damage, but could also thrust for piercing damage. I remember reading somewhere that piercing damage is good for piercing through armor. Well, now I've come across a balanced military pick, and this thinkis even better. It's nearly as fast as the sword, but it does all its damage as piercing. No need to thrust. This means that when riding on a horse, I can swing for piercing damage. No helm can stop my wrath, now. It's also faster than the morningstar, so if I lose my horse, I have a pretty quick dueling weapon, too. Once reason I was quick to get rid of the arming sword is because I was having a hard time thrusting with it. I think thrusting is kind of hard to do right now. I wonder if the attack direction arrows are centered on your opponent's face or torso. It should be the face, either way.

I couldn't help but comment on this, because it's one of the reasons I love this game so much. Something as simple as, "a two handed weapon means you can't carry a shield, which means you have no defense versus ranged weapons" is the kind of thing RPG designers tend to be too timid to explore. I don't know why. It's like everything has to be balanced with a linear slide-rule of numbers and figures. When it comes to using real-world counterparts as balancing elements, they won't do it. It would be cool if some maps come out in the future that have more strategic locations for archers, ie: cliffs that only have slopes on the rear side. This way archers can fire upon enemies without fear of reprisal. Would make for some good random mountain maps. Heh. I'd be glad to have my shield on a map like that!

[Edt: I know, I know, I'm an edit FREAK.]

I have to add this quote from another thread to cement my point.

-You with a sword (no shield), can't beat an archer from a distance, unless you're lucky.
-You with a sword, can't beat a guy with a joust (on foot), since you can't reach him (and he's running backwards).
-You at close distance, with a bow, can't beat two guys with shields and swords.

Basically, he was complaining about all the things I like most about this game. The times in the tourney where it is almost impossible for you to win. In fact, in these occurences, you usually get about 30-60 seconds before you are annihilated.

And I love it. I love going into the tourney when I know I might get stuck in a fight where there is only about a 5% chance that I will win. You know why? Because when you do win in those situations, it is extremely, extremely satisfying. Also, I simply cannot understand what it is about video gaming that has taught gamers that they should always win. Maybe it's the explanation for why most online gamers you run into in the big, public online games are such smacktards. People can't stand losing. They think it's the end of the world. If they lose a fight, what do they do? Okay, it's time to reload and do it again. Also, some people think that it should be only all about skill. What about when a 2h swordsman is fighting an archer? There should be no special advantages for either. It should all be based upon player skill. Man, that's spoiled video gamer brat smacktard baby talk!! Dry the piss stains off of your loincloth and charge that archer like a man, soldier! You have about a 20% chance of living, but if you take him out, you'll be a hero.

Playing this game on iron-man and getting beat down several times has been quite enjoyable for me. I won't ever forget my experiences as a newbie wielding a piece of crap and wearing a piece of crap. I made the best out of my crap and now I have some real shiny crap.

I like my Xbow.......almost every time.........i get a headshot and then BAM! i reload then another dead, then reload another dead ect,ect....its still fun to see them falling to my wrath!!

You had a typo there :p

If you've run out of one-handers to play with then just switch to a different type of weapon. I've gone from crossbow & 1h swords to archery and 2h axes. Once you get above level 15 or so it's pretty easy to play around with your character.

Yes.....I suppose anyone who thinks skill should trump luck must be a baby.

People who whine about their circumstances are whiners. That's fact. Babies also whine, so it made a convenient analogy for me.

How about you guys stop getting off topic in MY theard, eh? Good idea? Good! Then lets get back to the main purpose of the thread, or otherwise, let's not post

Watered steel nomad sabre does 28c which is equal to balanced broadsword and works a lot faster. It's my 1H weapon of choice.

Just get a 2Her as well. Sword of War and Great Axes are my personal favorites.

As for black armour, Murphy's Law does apply. The 2nd game day of a new game, I found a suit of reinforced black in a store. Unfortunately, I didn't have nearly enough to afford that 56k behemoth. I never cheat and so never managed to get it. Galloping around 60+ game days later, still no luck.
