hi guys,

lovin this game so far, i just dled the enhanced graphics mod and wow what a difference.  anyway i have a mix of troops that i recruited from villages.  if i ever decided to become a vassal of a faction and i own troops of an opposing faction that i am currently at war with, are there any penalties?  will they leave me?  bad morale?

just wondering cuz if thats the case i should just dump them now and concentrate on picking one faction to recruit.

o i had a question about battle sizer too.  if anyone uses it on the stock game what is the optimal setting to leave it on.  from what i read 160 seems good any more than that the ai gets all weird during seiges.  i havent done a seige yet so i dunno what that means.  i have a good pc so im not worried about lag or anything.

There is no penalty for using soldiers from a faction you are at war with. They will neither leave, neither have bad morale for being at war with their faction. They are loyal to you. However, prisoners you recruit (regardless of their faction) might escape during the first night (unless they are garrisoned). After that first night, if they are still there, they become normal soldiers.

Their starting faction is not relevant, they are your soldiers.

... Recruiting prisoners from your party also reduces moral. Avoid doing unless desperate for troops. Perosnally I enjoy my high tier troops, so I like to keep moral levels high to stop desertion.

The problem with sieges is that regardless of the number of troops involved (on the map) on both sides the attackers all have to go through the same bottleneck (ladder, siege tower, gate). So while both sides have more men on the map they don't have more room on the ladder.
Everyone will tell you different what is optimal, best you try it for yourself what you are comfortable with.

If you got good max tier troops among your prisoners (ie : swadian knights or huscarls), selling them for 50 denars is a crime. Don't need to be desperate for troops, anyone could use more marksmen, at least garrisoned. They only cost you 3 morale points each, so considering the time you have to invest to level up a recruit to the maximum level, it looks like a bargain to me. Anyway the next group of yelling-half-naked-stone-thrower-noobs will get your morale back to 99.

You are correct, both This_is__CALRADIA!!!  and Berpol. I Just wish to make something absolute clear to anyone who might misunderstand your words.

There are 2 ways of getting prisoners to fight for you. Here are they.

Rescued prisoners: This is the prisoners that the enemy you just defeated had. So these soldiers used to be prisoners and you freed them. You can add them to your party with no penalty other then the penalties of actually having a bigger party. This is regardless of what type of troop it is too. If you rescue a Looter, he is dead on devoted to serve you. If you rescue a lord you may not add him to your party, but if he is friendly you automatically free him, and if it is a hostile or neutral faction you can choose whether to recapture or free him.

Recruited prisoners: This is the enemy soldiers you take as prisoners. You can take any enemy soldier that have been knocked out as a prisoner. Then after the battle you can click "Camp -> Take Action -> Recruit some prisoners to your party". It is these prisoners that are likely to leave you, and cause morale penalty. But as far as I know, if you recruit them and put them into your castle or city garrison, they cant leave.

Holy crap, I became a vassal to the swadians, and WOW.  This game totally changed from awesome to one of my favorite games of all time.  So I see what you mean about the bottleneck, and I already knew about the prisoners.  I didn't get the battle changer yet and im trying it out just plain jane.  Having this one way to enter does stink, I don't suppose there's some mod for this.  Nevertheless it is god damn amazing to take down a castle.

I'm going to try the Native Expansion after playing this plain version for awhile.  I tried the LOTR mod and wasn't too impressed.  I suppose its a combination of not having enhanced graphics and I kind of felt lost just walking around and doing nothing.  Perhaps I was expecting more but I couldn't even find any enemies as easily as I could in the native version.

Since I switched topics, do you think I should go Native Expansion or Lord and Realms.  I sort of want to see the King side of things and both appear good on paper.  Lord and Realms uses the enhanced graphics mod too so I was kind of leaning towards that.

You are referring to the bottleneck, right? Then no, as far as I know there are no mod or utility to change the sieges. I think there have been some projects on it, and when Warband comes out it is said that there will be some new features to sieges.

Just wait for TLD and White Tree...Then you'll see!

Oh yes, then you'll all see! mwahahahahaha

I have only been playing M&B for a few weeks.

I noticed that sometimes when you recruit villages from a village you own, they are recruited as Militia, and not as Recruits.

Is this supposed to happen?

Is there a circumstance which makes it occur?

Yes, if you have better relation with a village then occasionally you get higher tier units instead of recruits. So say you had 90 relation with a village, then you could get Vaegir Knights instead of recruits (if it was a Vaegir village)
