Question about renown, am I such a badass?

Day 50 or so, renown 170, Im without any fiefs and never pledged anyone.

I encounter some nobles, and when I present myself they say stuff like "I've heared of your great valor" "People speak your name in fear" as if I was Atilla the Hun. I got an army of like 30 units, some of them elite but it's still no reason to be praising me like that. The nobles said those things even before I won my first tournament, so it can't be it.

Any ideas? I doubt Renown score of 170 is so special. The lamest noble in Swadia has like 230...

I have 1000 or so renown,and the lords treat me like crap (even though I`slaughter them every time i meet them....)

Maybe you impressed them by not being a puppet....

win a tournament and some battles, then all new lords u meet say that, i thinkg after 100 renown they start to "know" you

Compared to the other nobles, yes you are quite a newbie.

But compared to all the foreigners, you are pretty bad@$$.

I think the renown treshold for that stage of the game is too low. You can become Vassal very quickly, with around 100-150 renown. I would like to see that raised to 500, so the "mercenary stage" lasts a lot longer.

Good point. I was intent on beeing mailman and cow-herder for the first few months, but after just a little more than a week all joboffers were merc and/or vassal -type. I had won 2 tourneys then.
