[question] About couching? Can't see because of shield.

Was it the intent with this patch that the shield now blocks the riders view while in first person view?

Well, strictly from historical point of view rider couching a lance held his shield so that he covered as much of himself as possible. Rest is just problems with camera positioning. Or just use 3rd persons, all the cool kids do it  Haven't tested it personally yet.

This is playing a Nord Scout, and the Khergit is just like this.  The shield is to high.

This is from 3rd person and you have to place the camera angle kinda of at an extreme angle just to see the spear tip on the right side, forget the left.

Yeah, this needs to be fixed ASAP. Basically killed all the fun for me in this game, as I like to play mounted as much as possible. The shield completely block the player view. The only way to see what you are doing is to ready for an attack, dropping the shield to the side.

My ingame name is Krause.

Is it any less fun then having your charge intterupted at the last minute by some skilled archer?  From the looks of it, it needs to be adjusted but it is a step in the right direction regardless of the anger that the OP has towards this new feature.  If this means that it is hard to couch on the left side then so be it.  The added protection from the raised shield should have some kind of drawback, afterall archers are now losing a prime method of defending themselves against cavalry.

? It makes combat while mounted unplayable, not to mention idiotic. You can't see what you are doing, simple as that.

Anger?  I asked a question.  Plus if you do not think it is not frustrating you go try it.

Ahh, perhaps try using a sword?  I assume you are using your spear for thrusting rather than couching?  I will have to try later.

 generally means anger.  Try using a sword maybe?  As I said above I haven't tried it, but I can see it making people frustrated if they only use lances while fighitng on horseback.

You know your comments are really not even commenting on the issue.  You're not addressing the issue, but attacking the posters with your opinion on the subject and you haven't even tried it yet.  Use a sword.  If you can't see, how to do know when to swing? LOL!

Yeah, a slight animation change where the shield is held closer to the body should fix this. Just make sure the head is exposed so 1st person view works too.

I agree, the shield is very, very obtrusive.  I also believe if it was pulled in closer to the body the problem would be fixed.

A possible fix would be to make shields something around 75% opaque when in first person mode to the person holding it. Not realistic, but it's a fair compromise.

Problem is that they´re in the way in 3rd person too, in some angles.

Pulling the shield in and down a bit would help. I love the idea though. That should help make couching a little less risky when there are archers around.

Ya I'm glad they made it so you block yourself when you lance is couched, but it makes seeing anything in 1st person impossible. It's a great addition, just needs some adjusting.

The heater shields don't block your whole view like this, they just take up a good portion of the bottom left. You can still see the tip of the lance. It's just a minor error in positioning and I'm sure they will fix it in the next patch. It was good of you to point it out.

Yeah but if you don't make enough stink about stuff like this, it doesn't get fixed. Personally I couldn't imagine myself buying this if that is kept in, as it makes mounted combat unbearably frustrating.

The solution to this is simple. Make it so that by default your shield is down when couched lancing but if you activate block (usually right mouse button), have the player bring up the shield without it affecting the way your lance in pointed.

This way you can still strike opponents with the couched lance with your shield up but you get a clearer view of what your victim is doing if you throw caution to the wind and keep your shield at your side. I think this would quite accurately mimic the pros and cons of keeping your shield up or down when charging your enemy as they would apply in reality. Afterall, if you bring your shield up to be protecting most of yoru chest and head, you'd probably have a harder time steering your horse and aiming your lance. Given this, however, you should also have the option to simply tuck your shield to the side to improve your chances of skewering your opponent with the lance.
