You can buy all the previous M&B titles on their website though, it doesnt redirect to steam. But it does only provide a key to use on steam.Doubt they'll go for non-Steam copies in 2020 for anti-cheat reasons, but also to avoid a larger grey market with keys. It's very likely any purchase button on their website will just lead to the Steam store page.
Steam was still relatively new to non-valve games 10 years ago. It made sense to use CDs and non-DRM game versions back then. You can buy all the previous M&B titles on their website though, it doesnt redirect to steam. But it does only provide a key to use on steam.

There's no real purpose of having a non-DRM version today though, unless you wanna hack or attempt to gain a free copy of the game.
My first game on Steam which wasn't CS 1.6, TF or Half-life was Empire Total War in 2009 because I couldn't bother with the two CD-Roms.
I bought the first Mount & Blade via Amazon or some similar stupid third party back in 2010, until I bought it and Warband on Steam upon release.
The only post i saw was a person asking about where to buy the game because of the % cuts towards devs/platforms. Not about my specific question.this topic has been made 1000 tines
there is no answer yet
Not 100% sure, but 99% sure that if you buy a key from talewords the only way you can use it is by activating it on steam. If you go on TW shop there is stated that they keys are for steam.Yes i also dont want to be reliant on a third-party platform. It can lead to multiple issues/problems. Steam server issues, laggs, forced updates leading into broken saves(esp during EA), having to have internet connection to play SP etc. But i would also like to have the option to use it for certain integration benefits(social/modding/etc) if so i desire. Some games already do this. I dont see whats the issue.
I dont know about the "only way you can use it" part, it doesnt say that anywhere. But yeh it does say they are redeemable on steam, which answers part of the question. But not the part if you can download and play the game without steam. I have a feeling you can, but im not sure. Would be nice to get a confirmation on this. Not 100% sure, but 99% sure that if you buy a key from talewords the only way you can use it is by activating it on steam. I've been using steam for years, and i didnt find anything that bothered me. I really like or actually love steam. I almost don't buy any games anymore that are not on steam.. I also don't like having 3-4 different digital libraries.. So steam it is for me till the end of days.Steam is at the bottom of my "preferred" list because I don't like being reliant on a third-party platform. I've bought Warband from Taleworlds and again on Gog (they had an offer on Viking Conquest too) but I wouldn't have bought it a second time on Steam. So I hope there's an option just to buy a copy from Taleworlds. They already have DRM that is lightweight/unobtrusive yet works okay (as far as I can tell).
