I reformatted my computer, and now I can't connect to the Internet.  This has happened before, on previous reformats, but it always gets fixed somehow, and I don't know how.  I went into the BIOS stuff, the ethernet cable is connected, but XP won't recognize it.  If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.  If the mods want me to, I can delete this thread when the problem is fixed.  Thanks much, all.

I fixed mine by uninstalling the Network adapter drivers and rebooting, windows then installed one for me connecting me to the interwebs.

Edit- Rebooting sorry.

He's probably using a different computer to post, but yea, uninstall the drivers, i've done it in the past, worked like a charm.

Yeah, ethernet, meaning connecting to the university t1 line.

Thanks guys, but...how do I uninstall the drivers?

Oh yeah, and I'm using other people's computers to connect.

Are you picking up the University Network, or is the network not showing at all?

Might want to check with the uni whether you need any specific protocols / proxies / similar set before you can get on the network. It's usual for academic and similar networks to have a specific setup.

Yeah, they do, but I did all that rigamarole last semester.  The problem is, it's not showing at all.  However, I went into some hardware thing (via the control panel), and found out that my drivers aren't even installed.  So I went online and...downloaded something.  I'm now going to install it, and see if that works.

Edit:  As I thought, those were not the right drivers.  I put the CD in the drive, and it apparently doesn't have the drivers I need.  That doesn't really make sense, and I don't know where else to go to find the exact ones I need.

You shouldn't need any drivers. I'm assuming you needed to alter something in the network config (probably the DNS or setup a network connection) which you did last Semester, and is now gone thanks to the reformat.

Either contact the Uni and check, or if you have a PC on the network check it's configuration (both the network settings and the connection settings, via control panel) and try duplicating that on your box.
