SP - General [QoL Suggestion] How about a resume travel button or hotkey paired with locking on to a destination?

Users who are viewing this thread

We've probably all been in the scenario where we're travelling to a far off destination, when for one reason or another we have to take evasive action, whether it's to avoid (or even attack) a bandit party or hostile lord. Now, once the danger has passed, we have to scroll back over to the settlement and left click on it again, then wait for the screen to scroll back to our party so we can keep an eye on it while it moves.

Currently, the best way to streamline this process as far as I can tell is to pin the target settlement to the screen by clicking on the little circle, then clicking on the banner of the settlement to take you to the settlement anytime you stop, where you can then left click the settlement again to resume travelling. You can also click your player portrait to make the screen scroll just a little bit faster on the way back. This still takes multiple steps and clicks to accomplish each and every time you redirect your movement.

So my proposal is to add a way to lock-on to the location in which you want to travel (whether it's a point or a settlement) by, say, shift+clicking or right clicking, etc. Then, any time the player has to do evasive maneuvers to avoid enemies, they can now simply press a hotkey ('R' is currently unused) or click a button in the UI to resume travelling to the desired location.

Even if an explicit way to lock on to a target was not implemented, just 'remembering' the last settlement you had clicked on and resuming travel to it when the hotkey was pressed would go a long way toward improving the tedium of scrolling back and forth across the map after taking a minor detour while travelling.

Thanks!

This feature would generally pair well with the highly requested right click menu, similar to what Warband had. The lock on option could be listed in the pop-up menu. If we could also choose to 'follow' a party, such as a caravan, pressing R could allow us to resume following them without the need to pull up the menu again.
