Grandmaster Knight
I just started mseeing with Wings yesterday, and decided last night to start on my first sword. I have pretty much everything done to my satisfaction, except the blade. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put an edge on the blade or bring it to a point at the end of the blade. I've read quite a few of the FAQs and such around here, but have yet to see anything that explains this. help:grin:

here's the sketch I made I'm basing it off of...

Did you use the Wings3D tutorial? let me give you a link. http://www.cage8.com/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi?s=ad4f47c10528ffb7a8ed3dc409311d24;act=ST;f=46;t=1608;&#top

I tried it a few times just to get the feel of it, but I didn't like starting with the blade like that. I started this with the hilt and then went to the handle and extruded the blade from there.

you want to create an edge for your sword from an oval shape, right? Then jist colapse the verts on the sides an that's it!

smoothing groups my dead friend. See what kind of effect you get when you set an edge's hardness to "hard"

Hard to give advice without having the model "in hand" so the speak (where can rotate/look around and tell what's what). Even harder when don't see the actual geometry.. Give some pics with the edges visible, in the case of the above, either hit Tab to go into 'workmode', or if wanna keep the smooth/gouraud shaded look just hit the W key (default wireframe) to toggle them on.
To be clear I don't mean the classic transparent "wireframe", I want solid mesh shots just with the edges visible, e.g the pic on the left HERE (random unrelated example)

P.S yoshi, have been curious about that.. I know Wings will export 'hardness' out to OBJ somewhat, but does it translate/import well into M&B?

I changed the pics to show the mesh. I've tried some of the other suggestions so far, and it's either not working, or I'm not doing it right

Yeah, works/imports perfectly

Help, my sword I'm working on needs a blade before I can put an edge on it:

Just kidding, still haven't gotten to shaping the blade yet and have a stub for now.
Yes, this post was a shameless brag.
