Prospecting and Mining - You know you want it.

I think that there is potential in the ability to sniff out locations on the map that might yield metal or other valuables when mined. Probably there would be a skill tied to this, or have it be based on intelligence or the spotting skill. Essentially, the player could locate deposits of valuable minerals (or heck, even wild game or anything else like that). Once found, the player must remain in place on that spot for a period of time in order to 'mine' some of it, perhaps based on the number of troops and the number of tools carried. The player then gets some of whatever they were mining for - salt, iron, gold, or in the case of game or fish, dried meat or smoked fish. THe tricky part is defending your claim while you mine it, as you will be a sitting duck for bandits.

It's a bit late over here while I make this suggestion, so please take that into your account when you appraise my poor, feeble mental faculties.

I need some tea...

Even a reasonably sized force would take days or weeks to get enough ore to be worth anything, and that's assuming you can persuade someone who's signed up for fighting to do 12-hour days of hard labour.
