Proposal/Request: BattleTech 3025 mod

Good and honest responses and I bow to your superior wisdom.  I have to admit to ignorance, a man should know his limitations.  I didn't mention a learning effort on my part because I assumed it was implied by default, I can't imagine someone seriously expecting to lob an idea grenade over the wall and get a mod back out of it 6 months later :roll:  My hope was that there might be a skilled modeler who had thought about doing a BattleTech mod and given up on it when he (She?  Are there any female modders? :smile: ) couldn't make a 30 foot tall skeleton with reverse articulated legs.  If that person is out there, we should talk, 'cause I think I've outlined a way around that problem.  I feel like I could (eventually) learn to reproduce the things that have already been done and adapt them as I've described, but the modeling and texturing is the totally new work that no one's done AFAIK, and that's where help is most desperately needed (as opposed to being merely desperately needed elsewhere :smile: ).

I needed a new hobby anyway, can't afford my old one anymore :smile:

Basically, for the integration of 1st person ranged combat, melee combat (present in BT rules and missing from most if not all MW games), the fame based unit size,  and the economic / battlefield salvage aspect.  If there's another MW game or engine/mod out there that does all that in one package I'm ignorant of it.  Which isn't saying much, I'm a strategy gamer and woefully ignorant of RPGs and sims
 
I got an idea, I do like Battletech and all, but do you think you could do a mod based on Elemental and Battle Suit battles?

That would be a lot easier.

How so? 
- Still need new models and textures, missiles, beams, and ballistics adapted to M&B ranged weaps, and some way of restricting the heavy weapons to be battlesuit only.  What I'd rather do with that is make the Mech into the battlesuit and just do away with big trees to adjust the visual scale. 
- Suits jump, a lot.  More than I thought could be done via athletics skill along with the weight of the gear although I could be wrong about that.  Plus I was always annoyed by kangaroo hunting. :smile:
- Suits mean Clantech and losttech weapons.  Sticking strictly to IS cuts the variety of weapons needed by at least two thirds.  Of course most of those don't fit on suits, but still.
- Suits and Clans mean post 3050 timeframe when widescale production resumed and the atmosphere of desperate scrounging for scraps was gone.  For me personally, that was the great attraction of PnP BT.  It meant a merc stood a chance against a House unit 'cause neither could resupply at will.  It was one of the only sci-fi combat games that made logistics as important as the fighting, and that's what I want to try to recreate because it's more like real life. 

Uncle Joe was many things, but I doubt very much that a modeller or coder was one of them, so I really don't give a good Goddamn what he or you think unless you're interested in being constructive with your criticism like HokieBt and omzdog were, or at least polite about it like Dain.  I've no interest in hearing about how things are impossible when AFAIK this is just a variation on things that have ALREADY been done.  If that's wrong, have the decency to point out where so that I don't waste a huge amount of time and frustration trying.  Otherwise stay quiet or get bent.
 
So are you going to attempt to start this mods in the fields of modding that you are able in, hoping that others will assist you in what you can't yet do, or are just posting ideas, hoping that someone will join you?  :???:

Thanks for the tip on STALKER, will look into that too.
 
I wouldn't bother.. go for a decent modding engine.. I won't say Cryengine as it's obvious they have no need for another Battletech mod, but almost anything can be done with the Source or Unreal engines.. STALKER really isn't very moddable
