Promotion (Troop to Commander/Hero)

Here I suggest an alternate way of having commander units (or heroes) that are customizable without having to create more campaign heroes (like Marnid and Borcha).

Once a unit reaches the state where it cannot be upgraded to anything else, it would be

Campaign heroes would act just like your standard customizable, level-rising, unit that has a tie with the campaign story and its quests and, consequently, as they are with you for some other reason, they don't charge for it.

Troop commanders would act exactly like your standard hero, just that it's starting point would be that of the promoted unit, except it'll be given a name (custom or random, I'd prefer random) and will begin to charge a lot more than what it usually charged as a unit (could be ten times its usual cost or perhaps based off it's level that'll change along time). Of course the unit will start using one party slot just for itself, just like other heroes.

The idea just popped into my mind while I played, so I ALT+TAB'ed and posted it over.

By the way, I don't think the heroes party (like the Mag7 mod themes) fits the Mount&Blade theme. So, here's another sub-suggestion:

Starting from 4 points, each 2 leadership points would allow for one commander unit. So...

I like this idea. Perhaps it could be worked into the weekly wage report that pops up; after a certain XP threshhold, perhaps whichever troop gained the most XP each week would have a chance of "showing special promise." (This assumes XP is tracked individually for troops!) You would then have an option to promote this troop, or say "no thank you" as you see fit.

E.g.
You have paid 450 denars in weekly wages to your troops. You now have 43,890 denars left.

One of your [Character Type] shows particular promise.
(option 1) Single him/her out as a protege (make a new hero, random name)
(option 2) Award him N denars for his good work.
(option 3) Praise his efforts and keep moving (i. e. ignore it)

Just slipped in a second suggestion, which really just is a money sink at present. :wink:
 
Very nice suggestion. That would be indeed very cool to have implemented in the game. A more detailed and informative weekly report would be great.
