Problems with the camera

Hi! First of all, I'd like to say that I just downloaded the demo for M&B and think it's awsome. Many of these ideas have been discussed for a while in game development forums but no one had actually made them work. So kuddos to the devs :)

There is however a small issue. You see, in melee combat you use the mouse both to control the camera and select which direction you want to block an attack from. My character got killed in the first few combats before I realized that the way I usually like to have the camera (overhead) is NOT acceptable -- to block an attack from the sides I need to move the mouse a lot and then move it back to the overhead camera position. Is the game really forcing me to have the character's head right in the middle of the screen, so I can't see the opponent most of the time? Or did I just get it all wrong? It doesn't make sense to merge these two confliting controls.

okiN: actually I'm pretty sure it's the other way around :) I read the FAQ!

ironpants: thanks, the head shouldn't be a problem anymore, I'll try that. But still doesn't solve the issue of having these 2 controls conflicting with each other.

Ingolifs: I know that, the problem is that the direction of block is the same as the one I'm facing!

I'll agree with Jotaf that the attacking and viewing of the enemy can be really hard at times.

It would be great if we could do something like target a specific enemy and you would automatically keep them in view while riding... of course it wouldn't make it so you didn't have to aim arrows, but it would be nice to at least have your character automatically know to look behind them when they get hit be the guy they were just about to hit with a charge.

It really depends how you look at it. You wouldn't need to target people, but you could to make you life a little easier in the fray when there is a bunch of people attacking all at once.

if I could control the attacking to the left or the right side of my horse with a sword better that would be great. That's what usually does me in is trying to manuever my view rather than my sword so I can hit the guy. In first person the targerting/follow with view idea seems more realistic.

The only thing I don't like about 1st person view is I find it even harder to select which side of my horse I'm attacking from.

Also, making the overhead chop disabled when using a sword or mace on a horse would be awesome, because right now it seem that when you get the up arrow you can't attack until you choose left or right. If the up arrow was disabled you could have left and right side take up half the screen instead of being offset to the left or right as it seems right now.

I think that the jousting aiming is set up perfectly as it is, it's only the non pole arm melee weapons I have a gripe with.

Another thing I thought about is wouldn't it be great if when you delivered max damage with a joust or spear from horse back if it actually impaled the guy and it gets ripped from you hand.

*I saw an arrow sticking out the back of someone today*

That seems more realistic than always being able to charge someone with a pole arm and never getting it stuck in them.

If the person impaled didn't die, you'd have to jump off your horse and finish them while they lay on the ground more than likely and then retrieve your pole arm before getting back on your horse.

It would be more realistic if we could keep aiming while the horse turns around.

At least that way bothers me so much that I never use 1st person view while in the horse cuz I always use bow and the aiming just becomes a mess :(.

In other words, I miss at least an option 'while in horse, view follow horse turn around?' so I could turn it off and be able to aim properly while at horse cuz the 3rd person view, despite cooler, always make me mistake the proper aim.

Or may be even better, if you are using melee weapon, view turns toguether with horse, if using ranged, view is always free. Could have a 2nd option also 'while in horse, with melee weapon, view follow horse turn around?'
