Problems running later Mount and Blade versions

It's been a long time since I've been around here. Mount and Blade was mentioned in another forum that I'm a part of, though, so I remembered it and decided to come here and check it out again. There's only one problem I have.

I'll be honest and say that the first time I played Mount and Blade, it was off of a "borrowed" play key (from the aforementioned forum), so I never felt that I was in a position to complain when, during one of the releases, the graphics were revamped considerably (this would be the same release that the beginner's tutorial thing was added, and, as mentioned, the release when the graphics suddenly jumped up several notches). The thing is, this game is ****ing incredible (and I'm sure it's gotten a lot better in all this time that I've been away), so I would like to purchase it legitimately. I'm just wondering if, since that particular release was... released, has the game also been enhanced to run on lower end machines, such as the ones that could originally run it before it got so much more technologically demanding. I don't want to waste my money on a game I can't play, and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, so I'm just wondering what the status on the whole minimum requirements thing is.

And before you ask about my previous experience, I already tried all the basic, logical common sense steps. I turned off every visual effect and all that jazz, so it's not that I was trying to play the game on too high of a setting. The game literally just became too much for my PC to handle, and it was very sad.

I also really want to be able to play this game, and the most up to date version of it so that I can try out that Berserk mod. Why? Because I ****ing love Berserk, and this game always reminded me of it.

Thanks in advance.

Hahaha. Holy ****. I completely forgot about the fact that if you don't have a key the game allows you to try it out to a certain point.

It'll be a couple weeks still before I'm home again. I know for a fact my laptop would not be able to handle it, so I'm still curious if any performance changes have been made. If not, I won't have to risk getting my hopes up only to find out that it still doesn't work. Is there any way possible that in a future release the graphics minimal settings could somehow be lowered?
