Probably stupid question from a n00b.

First, this game is awesome. Now that it supports XP x64 I've gotten to try it (I've had my eye on it for some time), and the combat system is the best I've ever experienced. Extremely well designed game.

Anyways, my question is this. How do I give stuff to my party members, and can I decide what their primary function will be (ranged / melee)? I am sure it is incredibly simple, but I simply cannot find anywhere to do this.

Thanks for any help:smile:

You can only give items to Marnid & Borcha, talk to them via the Party menu.
You can't decide their primary weapon, they use ranged if they have some, then melee if they run out of missiles or if the enemy gets closer.

How then do party members acquire equipment? Do they help themselves to whatever is left after I loot the enemy after a battle?

When you are on the world map, and you access the PARTY screen - you can click on the name of the NPC (on the right side, near the top where it shows party members) - once you haved highlighted the name of the NPC - click on the TALK button in the middle section of the screen.

This will bring up a dialog with the NPC - there are 4 options:

1. "I have a few items I don't need, would you care to barter?" brings up the merchant function (with the NPC not a merchant) and you can give and get equipment from him. (personally I don't understand the need for teh exchange of coin - but when he says he cannot pay - just tell him it's ok and to pay what he can)

2. "Tell me about yourself" this brings up the NPC "CHARACTER window - when your NPC has advanced a level, this is where you decide how to spend his stat points.

3. "I'm afraid we have to seperate for a bit" (sic) this brings up a dialog whereby you can remove him from your party. Either to wander around and kill things himself, or he will meet you later at the inn of the 4 winds.

4. "Nothing, let's keep riding" is the exit choice.

Also, IIRC your NPC's will equip the most expensive items that you give him. But I could be wrong about that.

Hope this helps.

Pretty much so if you want to see it that way. The only things you have to worry about is their weekly pay and their food, they'll help themselves to whatever else they need.

Yes. You cannot, for example, lovingly give all of your Swadian militiamen bastard swords, but you can give Marnid one. You can talk to the "generic" troops, and in the little window where it shows the person you're talking to, you can see what equipment the troops will be wearing most of the time on the NPC's person.

I'm quite happy that you *can't* give equipment to your ordinary troops - I don't want to have to spend time micromanaging them.

As regards Marnid and Borcha, you can control their behaviour insofar as you restrict the weapons they have available - you could, for instance, load one of them up with a bow and 60 or 70 arrows (if you could get them to wield it in the first place  ) and just let them do the horse archer dance all game.

Here's once question I've always had: is there any way to select which weapons your generic troops use? I mean, my Swadian Knights with lances always get slaughtered, but if they have a shield/weapon combo, they last forever...
