pro wrestler vs martial arts ?

Users who are viewing this thread

jup another one of this topic. this one is in my opinion a bit similar with the samurai vs viking. but then bare fists.

well what do you think?

pro wrestler = strength and stamina
martial arts = speed and technique

Pro wrestling is entertainment. A pro wrestler is like a show-off bodybuilder, they look impressive but aren't as strong as they look, also all his acting probably will at least partially overwrite his natural reflexes with spectaculer but suicidal moves that will get his butt kicked in a real fight. This is more like "cosplaying super saiyan versus guy with lead pipe" than samurai vs. viking.

As with anything else it depends on the individual, but, in general pro wrestlers do exaggerated stuff for entertainment - they don't attempt to be as strong as possible. Before some smartass comes saying that boxing and kicks are useless before wrestling, or that every fight ends up on the ground, let me say that top boxers can punch at a force over 1000 lbs, enough to give a brain concussion, that Muay Thai kicks can permanently damage a knee/hip with a single kick, and that certain martial artists have beaten dozens of oxes. Wrestle that. Not that wrestling isn't effective, but the popular consensus that Judo/Brazillian Jujutsu is the 'best' martial art is largely crap from people watching too many police videos or MMA.

In all fairness, I think MMA is designed to fit this scenario moderately well. But WWE wrestling is far from BJJ or Judo or anything that goes on in a MMA fight. Heck, this could be a pro-wrestler vs BJJ fighter.

I vote martial artist, since I think this thread is talking about a martial artist sufficiently advanced to cause severe risk of organ damage with most attacks and probably pretty skilled in escaping grapples as well.

What Papa Lazarou said.

Also, define 'pro wrestling' and 'martial arts'.

The way I see it, 'pro wrestling' is a martial arts form, even if it's been severely dumbed down for the lowest common demoninator. Olympic wrestling generally involves some kind of artificial points system like most of its counterparts, but it's still far more effective than 'pro wrestling'. The 'wrestling' that you see on the street is a way to introduce their soft parts to your knee.

Argh... This is even more stupid than that pirates vs. ninjas... You know there is so many martial arts and as said pro wrestling is one of them.

After reading Historys Strongest Disciple Kenichi (manga) that is about martial arts this feels even more stupid.

As "Pro wrestler" do you mean "Show Wrestler"(Like RAW or Smackdown) or "real" Wrestler like this one?:

It's totally not fair to amputate your shins so that you're closer to the ground and more stable. Now everyone will be doing it.

Just kidding.

HSD, ridiculously exaggerated though it might be, is awesome. It's like Street Fighter babes in manga.

this. considering that certain martial arts(such as capoeira) evolved from street fighting techniques(though capoeira in particular has nothing to do with wrestling as such), one can safely say that an actual wrestler can in some cases face off against a martial artist and get out alive and in one piece. But MMA and RAW... just forget it, those people are actors, they`ll die in the very first seconds.

You are right, it is so much similar to samurai vs viking or to the thread about multiple attackers (knight vs 6 peasants).
IMHO we should give it up, because by nature the question has no reasonable answer.

To be short but precise: I can easily imagine a situation a wrestler gets his ass badly kicked by a martial artist, and I know Bruce Lee has been once put and shut in a big waste container by a wrestler, too. And he could not get out until the wrestler let him ;). It makes no sense to analyze it.

not necessarily. first of all, a martial artist who knows what they`re doing would not let the other guy get to them. and even if the wrestler manages to close in, they`re in for a hail of strikes

Since point shooting is a martial art, I dare you to compare Bob Munden against any professional wrestler. :P

Look up Brock Lesnar, he was a pro wrestler who decided to join the UFC (cagefighting aka MMA) and he won the heavyweight championship.  Whoever says MMA is acting is obviously confused, MMA stands for mixed martial arts and it has already answered your question.  Also, how can you guys says that pro wrestlers aren't strong?  They can lift other wrestlers who weigh 250 plus pounds over there head, and then throw them.  I would say that's pretty strong.
