This issue was mentioned in this thread which is not in support section. I understand it's not the highest priority, bit still if something's bugged - better report than not
Summary: Judging by the dialogue options with prison guard, it seems prison break mechanics was supposed to be implemented pretty much the same way as in Warband but the prison guard behavior wasn't programmed properly
How to Reproduce: (While at war) Infiltrate a town, talk to the prison guard - he only says "get away from me you vile beggar" like any town guard, no dialogue options, guard is invincible
(While at peace) Go into town, talk to the prison guard - there are the same options as in previous games - it is possible to learn who's imprisoned, bribe the guard to get inside or yell "gimme the keys now". Bribing lets you in but that's pretty useless as you don't have the keys and the prisoner only says "I'm not allowed to talk". "Gimme the keys" leads to the guard crying for help (Help! Prison break!) but he just stands there still, doesn't become hostile or killable, noone rushes for help, noone breaks from anywhere
Quest/Settlement Name (if related): tried in Amprela both at war (mercenary contract with Sturgia being at war with Khuzait) and at peace (ended the contract via "Leave Kingdom"), also tried in Marunath as an intependent kingdom at war with Battania. Pretty sure this issue is universal

I've tried to reproduce the peace scenario in Marunath on the newer version. So I left my own kingdom relinqushing the fiefs, went into town, found the dungeon but the prison guard just went awol somewhere, disappeared. The door was surprisingly unlocked. There were a bunch of troops inside behaving like town guards. Some of them. the ones from civilian trooop tree - mercenary guards and watchmen behaved like tavern mercenaries - offering to recruit them and saying they'll drink another one and join me. A found my companion and a lord serving the Kingdom I used to rule. Both said they're not allowed to talk. Since the whole story looked a lot like going into buggy realm ever since I left my own kingdom I've stopped my explorations at that
