I know Persians don't really look like Arabs, but maybe they could've tried looking for a decent, say, Iranian actor instead?

Oh yes the world renowned iranian actors.

The whole axis of evil thingy doesnt seem to help much.

Yeah, because there aren't plenty of Iranians living outside of Iran.

Anyway like I said, I don't actually really care much about how they make the prince look. I just want them to stick to the story as much as they can and get the whole feel that The Sands of Time had right. Not like the DARK AND EDGY Warrior Within. Ugh.

I still wish they'd gone with the actual real life prince of Persia who they were considering:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1377352/

  • Iranian producer and actor currently living in Hollywood
  • a prince of the Persian royal family
  • a champion equestrian
  • Studied Fencing, Roman Sword Fighting in England
  • Studied martial arts as a child (Kick Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Karate)

According to historical records he is one of the last male members of the Zand dynasty which rules the Persian Empire 1747 to 1779. His great, great, great grandpa was Karim Khan Zand. He was a compassionate ruler who refused to assume the title of shahanshah (king of kings) but used that of the vakil (regent). The civil war that followed Karim Khan's death ended only with the final establishment of the Qajar dynasty. His death in 1779 was followed by internal dissensions and disputes over successions. Karim Khan appears to have been a wise and just ruler and was greatly mourned on his death in 1779. Between 1779 and 1789 five Zand kings ruled briefly. In 1789 Lotf Khan (ruled 1789 to 94) proclaimed himself as the new Zand king and took energetic action to put down a rebellion led by Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar that had begun at Karim Khan's death. Outnumbered by the superior Qajar forces, Lotf Khan was finally defeated and captured at Kerman in 1794. His defeat marked the final eclipse of the Zand dynasty, which was supplanted by that of the Qajars.

Pretty cool stuff. For whatever reasons though, they decided that Jake Gyllenhaal was the better choice for the role.

They actually  considered him. And chose not to

They could have saved so many doubles/stand-ins and stuntmen

The source material for the game is as generic as you can get. So the only reason why the movie is specifically licensed from the video game is as a gimmick to catch the playerbase of the game as viewers, and double as an ad for the next game release.

In other words, the movie will totally suck balls.

PS Jake's wig is hideous. It's like a giant brown mop is trying to devour his brains.

That's not a wig.
Could use a wash though.

Film casters really do mess some things up sometimes  :???:, why choose Gyllenhaal when Zandi looks (and is) so right. It's like when they didn't cast Bateson as Agent 47.

I mean, come on!

Meh, Olyphant should be in every movie. Along with Michael Caine, Gordon Freeman, and Eamonn Walker.

Necropost, But seeing the movie was release yesterday i guess its fine?

Anyway i went to see it yesterday and it was actually really good, Now prince of persia games suck after the original but the film was a complete suprise i walked in expecting a Uwe Boll experience but the story was pretty well executed, the visuals were nice i loved the costumes for the characters and extras, the Vizier actually looked like the Vizier! ans was well. The story strays from the games but thank god for that seeing they're a god awful mess now.

Overall i'd give the film a high 8 out of 10

I guess the film's atmosphere isn't going to be as dark as it probably should be (Warrior Within) as it's being produced by Disney. At least the identity of the producers tell us it's not going to be low budget.
I do like Gemma Arterton though. She was the only good thing about Clash of the Titans.

It's sorta darkish at points but they don't lay of people dying lots of killing (Warrior Within was meh the Dahaka looked like an emo childs conjuration) the use of the daggers CGI is AWESOME! the

Story Spoiler
the Hassansin are awesome!, no sand monsters though

I'd say it was pretty good. I was quite entertained. Never played the games though, so I couldn't say how the plot fits with the games.

Watched it today. I agree that the main character would certainly have been well played by that real Prince of Persia chap, but nonetheless Jake Gyllenhaal played it quite well.

Good story, the chick is like a hot Megan Fox. Although the real actress looks rather bleh.

I watched it and can say it was enjoyable. One of the better video game movies.

She's a former Bond girl. She's hot by definition.
