Prices on rare stuff

Hey everybody,

Got my hands on some Tattered Demonskin when i was beating up a band of heretics.
I can't really use it, because it requiers str. 30, but it sure looks nice.
The problem is that it only is worth 82 denars in selling price. I mean, sure... nobody can use it, but isn't it quite rare?
And with its stats it should undoubtly be worth a little more, IMO.

From what  I understand, that item is not supposed to drop. That's probably why it has a low sell value.

Well, it´s filthy Demonskin. Who, sane and rightous, would dare to touch such unholy abonimations? Who would openly buy it?
And it isn´t that uncommon - a good amount of Heretic Priests actually wear it. With decent looting skill you should be able to get a normal Demonskin pretty fast.

And now I may point towards Mr. Sigismund Sinclair, who starts with a nice suit of plate and STR 28. The 2 levels he needs to get 30 strenght are there pretty fast and you can clad him into that piece of armor making him the ulitmate booted killer machine - in case he gets dehorsed

Look at it this way: it encourages you to try and use it, by not being worth selling.

Demonplate requires 73 STR, but since it is ... unlikely... that you'll ever get a character that strong, it is rather expensive.

Sounds kinda like a "We wanted these guys to have armor that makes your best weapons bounces off while they pummel from a stand still...but since we really don't want you to use it ...here have some money for your troubles."

(Cynical sounding I know, but am I wrong?  )

It is a little more complex than that.. but boiled down and mixed with cynicism--that about sums it up.

There is a thread somewhere that discusses this at length.

In a nutshell we wanted the Revenants and major undead guys to be really really hard to kill.. a BIG deal to defeat one.  I mean you kill one and it is forum bragging rights.

The problem is with the module system you are limited to how much strength.. (hitpoints) you can give to a character without causing major headaches for yourself.  So, the solution I proposed was to raise the strength as high as possible, then to protect them with armor.. of course then you raise the issue of completely unbalancing the game because you have introduced an element into it that can make a player all but invincible.

The optimal solution: Raise the strength on the armor so the player cannot use it..but compensate them should they manage to find one.  A solution to a problem caused by a solution to a problem.... not exactly straightforward.

Best,

Saxondragon

You certainly succeeded in making them difficult. I killed 3 by couching each of them twice (the only way I could ever seem to hurt them) before unhorsing another who managed to unhorse me right after. It was over after that because where he was doing 25 or so damage with each whack while at a stand still (and with damage for me at 1/2) my Balanced Noldor Longsword was bouncing off of him for 0 damage....suddenly swords don't seem like such a great idea anymore...

Yes.. you need the legendary weapons to go toe to toe with them, especially the weapons that do piercing damage...  But.. Kudo's to you for the battle..  I bet that increased your blood pressure for a bit!

Pierce and Blunt, Arak, pierce and blunt. Remember these two against anything clad in iron or worse from head to shoe.

Cuttind is near worthless against plate or any good armor. Piercing and blunt weapon will be much better.

Yeah piercing does help. I can usually poke one to death if they don't take me out with a Throwing Axe of Doom (TM). Or if his friends don't show up.

Unless you do an overhead cut and slice his skull in two.
