SP - General Prevent horses that are 'locked' from being used to upgrade cavalry

thread title sums it up, cavalry upgrades are ignoring the lock mechanic. i am grateful that a while ago TW improved the situation by making it so that upgrades use the less valuable horses first but this does not cover all situations especially one where you don't have that many war mounts and you're trying to conserve some either for a quest or breeding purposes. it's easy to have a slip of the mind when quickly upgrading units and assume that because you 'locked' those horses they are safe when they are not

I lock horses because I don't want to accidently trade them, but I want to use them for upgrades
how would you suggest we can have both features?
two different lock buttons?

well when you try to smelt a locked weapon a warning message pops up, something like that could work for horses

that aside, i feel like i never have to hit the "sell all" button when it comes to horses, so the lock feature is more about preserving a few special horses for quests/breeding rather than because im afraid i'll accidentally sell them

Oh you feel like that? You feel wrong.
Only because you play a certain way doesn't mean everyone else does as well. Stop making statements as if it's proven by science when in reality you only "feel" that it's true for yourself.

no need to be rude just because i play the game differently from you, at no point did i say it was a universal rule everyone should follow. the game just doesnt throw as many horses at the player like it does weapons & armor, so the 'sell all' becomes quite underused with horses. i only really need to start selling horses when Herd penalty pops up since having them in inventory provides bonuses, and then i go through them with a fine-toothed comb rather than via 'sell all', even if i opted for 'sell all' i would still have to sell some of the 'locked' horses that accumulate, which just makes me skip 'sell-all' completely

I was rude because in my first reply I showed you the issue with your suggestion, and I asked you questions to help you make a better suggestion. but instead, after you make a lazy suggestion which doesn't work (too much clicking for upgrading units), you reply with "I feel that doesn't matter for the way I'm playing, so ill just make a statement as if everyone cares about the same things as I do"
as if what I just said doesn't matter because you're more important.

yeah but you forget your own suggestion. you're saying locked horses should not be used for upgrading
so for late game players, who constantly get thousands of items from battle loot, we would have to first lock every horse type, then sell the crap, then unlock all the horses again so I can use them for upgrades. Players should not go through that for the sake of horse breeder roleplays

i like that suggestion and its simple - ideas
1. when you upgrade your troop from infantry to horse or horse to warhorse you should have a drop down menu to chose from your horses.
2. in the group scrren there can be a dropdown menu on the top or bottom on the right side where you choose "all", "aserai", "desert" or whatever you have in inventory, or there is a full list from all horse typed and you can select them from the beginning

edit: ok, i would say option 1 is to much clicking if its for every single one. second option is better, but maybe there can be a combination of both... i dont know

your dilemma is self-created though, you're choosing to lock every horse type unnecessarily and creating more work for yourself, you're still going to have to manually sell some of the locked horses as they accumulate, and because of the way breeding works you're encouraged to keep a variety of horses which i assume you're getting rid of via sell-all, i just don't see the value of sell-all except to occasionally get rid of the injured horses which takes me a few seconds manually and thats like once every 20 battles. on the other hand, i don't get to choose which horses the game uses for upgrades, at the very least locked horses should function like locked weapons attempting to be smelted

Players should not go through that for the sake of horse breeder roleplays
you do understand that the only way to get some of the rare horses is through the breeding perk and that it's not roleplay?

It uses locked horses last, so there is certainly a portion where this is on the player for just hand waiving off any details of the troops he’s making cavalry and clicking promote all buttons.

I think the only change that needs to be made is it gives you a warning similar to smelting when you are about to smelt something. The truth of the matter is, as shown in this thread, different people are using the UI features for different things. No matter how you change it, it’ll add more “unneeded” prompts for some, and destroy the functionality for others
