Meh, personally the axe is my favorite. When 3/4 of your army is on horses and your pretty much matched in terms of men and equipment to mountain bandits, that's the only exception. On the other hand, the axe is a powerful hitter, cleaning up those "Destroy That man and run yourself over to me before my AI settings tell me to go randomly patrol somewhere and so called put my life in danger when I mysteriously warp back to my castle, leaving my men as prisoners" quests really easy. Well......NOT considering the fact I always run away and then fling a rock at him first.  :o

coulda swore i already saw a topic like this....

Thats because it has been made like 7 times previously.

Depends on the task.

Against parties with lots of archers, it is a lance / bastard sword and a heavy charger that I ride through their formation so they have no time to shoot too much before engaged into a close combat.
Against Nord infantry (prone to arrows) it is a bow / a shield and a sabre.
In sieges, it is a crossbow (more dependable for sniping than a bow) and when in - a sword of war (reach of 130) I swing from behind the first line of my troops (actually a bug in the game, you can't hurt your own troops unless with projectiles and your weapon gets trough the walls ;)). A large axe is just fine for the job as well if you stay in the second row, while if I fight in the first line in the crowd I prefer a 1H axe or a maul with a small reach (of 60 - 70).

So I have some 12 ;) slots in the inventory for the weapons I choose before engaging, after checking what enemies I face and considering what troops I have with me.

Sabre/Scimitar,very efficient for slashing plus they're one handed weapons so i can use a shield to defend from ranged weapons since i'm usually cutting down skirmishers, crossbowmen and the like.

morningstar or bastard sword + shield and a masterwork war bow + Large bag of khergit arrows + heavy courser =D

1h battleaxe, knight heater shield, war bow, bodkin arrows
I sometimes exchange the shield for a second quiver (in sieges or while fighting mounted) but that depends mostly on the expected length of the battle.

As for me, I love my Balanced Club with Spike, it's full of essential vitamins and minerals.
Minerals OK, but vitamins?
I thought the club is for external use...

Masterwork Nordic Sword + either (Balanced Lance Reinforced + Knightly Heater Shield) or (Masterwork War Bow + Large bag of Bodkin Arrows + Reinforced Huscarl's Round Shield), depending on my mood/situation.  Sword + lance for fields usually, bow for sieges.

So, a LOT of people favor heavy and ranged weapons. My soldiers are my best weapon, considering that I just send them into battle on their own while I sit back like a dirty jerk watching them die for a lv. 12 adventurer.

balanced awlpike
strong war bow
large bag of khergit arrows
balanced great sword
heavy hunter
I might end up ditching my sword for another large bag of khergit arrows, because being a horse archer is soooo fun.  Plus, my pike is almost as good as my sword when fighting on foot, which is the only time I use the sword anyway.

Balanced light lance when on horse. A saber and shield on foot. Not for any practical reason... I just like how the saber looks.

Heavy cavalry (in the 1257 Edition mod):
Sword/shield, lance, bardiche.

Light cavalry (in Custom Settlements):
Bow, 2 bags of arrows, bardiche.

I'm a bardiche fan. Ride away from the enemy horsemen, turn into them when they chase you, and slice the eyes out of the horse. Ta-da, now you're just fighting more footmen. :P
