Well i have an theory about how they reached there, but it may sound stupid:
Nords have Sargoth as last town, and some village on other side of map like Mazigh (or whatever its called). Villagers always head to nearest town for supplies, but since they head to Sargoth when they could go to Halmar or something, it makes no sense... Only if Nords are at war with all other kingdoms

btw, does anyone else here pronounce Vaeghirs with the G sounding like J? sometimes when i see the name of the faction i shorten it in my mind to "Veag", and in my more lecherous moods a follow it up with "ina"

Well, as an aside, I have pet names for all the sides. I call the Sarranids the Sorry-nits. Strangely though I don't have one for the Vaegir other than some times giving them a Russian accent, or what I think is one.

I wouldn't call it a fail. I rarely ever use auto-calc because of such erroneous styled results. I remember some one posting on here how they lost some thing light 4 Swadian Knights to looters on auto-calc and the little beggers don't even use javelins! My game also saves every time you exit and every time you enter or exit a village. As such, I leave little to the auto-calc terror. I can't afford the results. Only when I do a face plant and can't fight, which is actually fairly rare, do I use it. I have yet to keep the horrid results of it. Sorry. I just don't like the reminders of garbage results.

Slightly off topic, but if you never want to be required to use that autocalc crap again, an easy tweak is to set "player_wounded_treshold" [sic] in Modules/Native/module.ini to 0; this will make it so you can always choose to fight battles in 3D even when you have no health left. Just sit out the battle yourself and use the command screen, if you feel like being a purist.
Troops can still be lost due to the retreat calculation though - to remove that and allow battles to continue after the player falls see here or here (haven't tested it much yet though).
