Post-apocalyptic mod.

I would be willing to make some art assets for this mod, here and there when I feel like it.

But I have a question first: does the game accept new .dds texture files, so I don't have to use the existing ones? It would be much easier if I could just model>unwrap>and then make it's own texture for it, and then send it all to whoever's compiling the mod. Infact that would make all my M&B modding easier. I don't like the idea of big texture images for many different models. I know I could edit those, putting my own texture in the black space somewhere, but I still don't like it. I prefer each model having a corresponding texture. Well it does after some hex editing(I saw noob saibot's (I don't do leet) video tutorial), I'm really just wondering if the Unofficial editor can do the same task. I don't think the compiler of this mod is going to want to hex it all in.

Yep, you can add in new or copied DDS files, though it takes finagling a couple of BRF files to get them included. Very much possible though.

Yes it can. The new version has a resource section. That way you can make a mod without messing with the vanilla build. (http://forums.taleworlds.com/viewtopic.php?t=6628)

After taking some classes I can see your point above, but alas that's not such a good idea. If every object had it's own texture file, the game might grind to a halt. That would be a lot of resources, not sure how the game would handle it. Besides, if you are making several 256x256 images, you could complie 16 of them into 1 1024x1024 file?
Then you get into repition. if you have a steel like texture in several objects, your wasting resources that could be shared.

BTW, there has been no real character type talk... I'm pushing for some mutant style enimes if possible.

Hmm, yes I also see the validity of using such a shared texture file system, I just imagine it would be more of a hassle that way.

Just what would this 'finagling' constitute?

if any of you have played necromunda you'll know ratskins and muties, we could use those as they are both basicly human and very cool

You just have to hex-edit the texture_names.brf file and materials.brf file to include the name of the new DDS file and the name of the materials associated with it, which n008 covers in his tutorial. I used that method to reference copied texture files for variations of existing armors and shields. I'm referring to the new colored team equipment in my Arena Expansion mod, which Dablade did all the retexturing for.
It is finicky, you definitely need to be careful not to misplace a character or mess up a number on it; I managed to screw it up the first time I tried somehow, still not sure what I did wrong that time.

Hokay, here's a concept.

Working with the factions from the now-dead Fallout 3, the NCR and BOS could be the two warring parties, the Vag's and Swad's respectively.

The NCR can have larger force sizes, with well equipped regular infantry and poor militia/forager units, as well as some troops on horseback/vehicle.

The BOS can have both small, well equipped elite teams of PA equipped troops and the sort trainee grunt as seen in Fallout Tactics.

Working with the map, you would have to include both Shady Sands(NCR) and the BOS compound, where exactly they'd get put I don't know.

Dorak keep could become a Raider/Tribal stronghold.

River Pirates- Cannibal Tribals/Ghouls
Dark Hunters- Former Enclave Troopers/Supermutants
Bandits-Different Raiding groups
Sea Raider- Caesars Legion Slavers

On a side note, for the game to be enjoyable if Ballistic weapons are used, movement will have to be greatly increased for all characters, they would have to actually be able to run, cover and crouching might also need to be on the cards.

Really excited about what this mod could become if anything gets happy, let me know what you think.

fallout 3 isn't completely dead though, bethesda have bought the licence and is currently in the pre-production phase of fallout 3. (they will probably start production as soon as oblivion is finnished)

no one has a solid idea for a story yet? or is this just another surface mod... :???:

how about something like :

tribe is overrun by slavers, you are left for dead. must try and rescue daughter/wife/etc. (Daughter might be best for mix of male/female characters, but I'm quite liberal  )

mix in some wadering quests, slave arena (if your caught by slavers, or by choice), random gangs interacting

Well, before that you might want to decide whether or not you're actually doing this and get a team together.

how about a roll call?

I'll do the mesh work. I'll see if I can also add some busted buildings if this thing gets off the ground. now we need a mod dude, someone to do the map, and a texture king. I'll keep checking as things go by.

I already posted what I'm willing to do. nothing concrete, but I'm excellent at stuffing my ideas down the throats of others!

I'll volunteer to do some support scripting (implementing things here and there in the script), if somebody else will do the main scripting.

I'm no good at modeling, but i think I can bring something decent to backstory and storylines. If Worbah is willing to work with me that is. After the noodle incident.... But seriously, if you want me to help with story I will.

I got the modeling, but even finding some sample/concept art would help out for modelling. But we do need the back bone of a story. I think we have a starting team for the mod.

Leodan Flamelock and Can 'O' Soup, I guess we need to get an idea of troop types. Are we looking at mutant types? are we making classes from troops? Will we have troops/bands? or will this be more of a lone wolf type thing? small parties? I was thinking more like fallout, where you can pick up NPCs on the way. Maybe max out at 4, so you can pick and choose your wandering team... ok, I'm babling...

Im not exactly much of a writer, but ill input a bit on this. I think mutants should be untouched for a bit, its a nice idea, but the best we could do at the moment is simulate them with textures and helmets. They can be placed in later easily considering they will only serve as something of wandering bandits. Im not sure on the players army, but in my opinion a few recruitable heroes would do nicely instead of some massive army.

Can 'O' Soup 说:
Well, there might be a choice of small or large parties depending on how you want to play. Do you think there's a way to stop someone from being able to recruit troops if they aren't a certain class?

If so, there could be a place for a more army oriented character to recruit, and a place for a small party type of character to get hero type units.

Thats a nice idea, the large gap between weapon qualities can help to strike a balance between these two classes.
