I'm Trying to find a way to level Athletics that doesn't directly abuse the game, ie, the tutorial exploit.
So after some research about knuckle dusters, I learned that other than recently, there were no other times a hand weapon was used other than Rome, with their Cestus.
The Cestus was basically a glove with the primary objective to project the hand, but were often donned with metal plates and sometimes even spikes...
Other alternatives would be being able to strike with the pommel of any weapon, with would grant experience to athletics alone and not the weapon type.
This would fit better where Bannerlord is put historically as medieval times used the pommel (usually a dagger) to protect their hands and beat someone.
Those are some ideas that could be implemented or tossed around for other ideas.
I just think, currently, athletics is too hard to level compared to other skills, not including niche skills like engineering, which is a whole other beast.
