Possible Heroes

I would like to suggest a separate set of stacks for your heroes, perhaps enabling you to give them control over an army of their own ( I know you can already give them an army, but I mean give them it without them leaving the party). Also, a little suggestion, perhaps silly, but I wouldn't mind being able to recruit those guys in the pub in Zendar, the people who fight in the tournament on to your side, and also perhaps recruiting from the prisoners you capture (again, I don't know if you can already do this but I sure as hell can't)

I don't imagine prisoners would appreciate you much. The separate hero stack would be convenient, if nothing else.

you can give them armies but you have to separate from them to do it. I mean give them control over a part of your army IN BATTLES so you could give orders to them easier. for instance you could give Borcha a bunch of archers and tell Borcha's group to hold position and Mrnid foot soldiers and tell him to guard Borcha. this is only an idea, of course

I think it would be usefull if one could leave certain troops in some fort or something, and pick them up later. For instance, if you have a mission to capture a nobleman, it's very difficult to do so if you have 10 sharpshooters with you. That poor man has no chance whatsoever to be knocked unconscious. So, if one could just leave killing machines and go on a certain missions with manhunters or just a bunch of peasents that use blunt weapons, that would be cool.

good idea. by the way, anyone know the progression tree for manhunters?. It goes Manhunter, Slavecatcher (or something like that), Slavehunter, and then what?

I think its Slave Master or Driver.

More heroes would be cool though. Definitely seperate stacks for them.

Perhaps even give them ranks, which would control how many units they could be assigned...

Hero stacks: Good idea... Coding difficult without that much betterment of game, however. If you can, go for it, if you can't, no biggie.

About prisoners... God, they're useless! Can't you make them carry **** or something??? And how come you, by yourself, can cart Dark Hunters around as prisoners?! COME ON! Geez...

(And about prisoners carrying stuff... "... Hmm... 'Swaybacked River Pirate'... When did I get that?")

hi all,

I do like the idea of assigning troops to your heros, would be nice for the larger battles for sure.

Giving borcha or marnid any responsibilities.. hmm well it sure sounds nice.. but it seems to me that in the end we will be the ones controlling it. i mean you go there you go there hold position.

now what? what kind of tactic would borcha use there? giving complex tactic mind to them sounds like hard to code+adopt. Giving them simplicity sounds like useless.

but i think if the orders would be two-step, would help alot. Step 1: Who Step 2: Order

All, hold this position, dismount
(enemy advances closer, after giving casualties to ranged attacks)
sword sisters, mount and charge
vaegir horsemen, follow me (goes sideways to flank and divide enemy)

would add alot of variaty i guess.

About prisoners, if I was a dark knight and had the choice of joining my captors as a soldier or working in a salt mine in misary and pain, I know what I would choose. Perhaps the time you have had the prisoner could affect how willing they are to join you.
For example, a common bandit might ask to join you on the spot but a swadian knight might need a good few days to be persuaded to fight for you against his former comerades.

nice idea, I could see this topic going on for ages
It will reappear again in a new thread next week under the title "They Flew By Night" and it will have two dozen posts by people who joined that day.

Those are both great ideas. I love the two step orders.

Order Suggestions:

1) CTRL+[ and CTRL+] would go through the possible groups. (Party slots?)
2) The numpad would give orders and set tactics.

Hero Stack Suggestions:

1) Each hero could have it's own stack that could contain up to his own troop ammount (that's based on his own charisma and leadership).
2) The number of heroes or commander units (if coupled with the promotable units idea) would be limited by the party leader's leadership (or whatever), that in the player's party case would be the player character itself, so we would not have tons of stacks for having many heroes and/or commander units.

PS: Perhaps the stacks stuff will be too complex and not that great of an addition to the game, I admit. But the more detailed orders and groups orders is definitely a must have.

Also "attack melee-attack ranged" commands would be useful.

In fact, we should have a "commander screen" which is set on map screen
It should be like...

*choose blablamarksmen* set: attack: Ranged always
*choose swordsister* set: Dismount&Ranged while enemy away, mount when close
*choose knight* set: melee-go for ranged attackers

that was super-superfical but i think point is taken..

Yeah, telling them to use ranged attacks would be soooooooo useful. Also, the mount / dismount keys seem to be ineffectual, for instance I have 15 hired blades, but three of them steadfastly refuse to mount their horses and therefore get knocked out all the time. That needs to be fixed.

I know I already said it, but how about being able to recruit the guys from the tournament in Zendar on to your side? You know, Dranton, Xerina and the like?

Also, very important point, the trainer in Zendar should be able to train you with a ranged weapons as well as just melee weapons. That needed to be said.

Sure, but there's another thread that's already talking about that.

On top of orders, troops should also learn to act as a group. Not as in following their own orders, but for instance archers sticking together and aiming at the unshielded targets without you having to explain it to them

Melees grouping together (and possibly even holding a line) instead of spreading out and getting trampled by mounts

Mounts going for stray troops and archers rather than constantly running into the infantry pool and getting slaughtered

Units always going for the high ground when it's near if they're told to hold a position

And little things like that, so that you don't have to nitpick yourself.
