Possibility of an offhand use (not necessarily dual wielding)

I couldn't help but notice that the animations for banner lord don't terribly suck. You could even argue it all looks good. I think there's a whole load of importance in being able to use your off hand during combat, from making regular moves and weapon switches look good and effecient to the grand arsenal of tricks

In Native
Holding your spear (because, y'know, they don't just magically stick to your back)or banner whilst using any other weapon.
Grabbing and throwing javelin, rock, or other throwing weapon, without sheathing your sword/dropping the spear.
Using a warhorn, drinking a beer (as you're want to do in battle)
Holding anything behind your shield with the same hand, so you can switch to it faster than getting it off elsewhere on the body.
Knifing a guy while your main hand is busy.
Throwing sand in someone's face during an honourable duel.

In modules
Colonial era: Using a pistol whilst holding a one handed weapon
Modern era: throwing a grenade
Samurai: throwing a cluster of  Shuriken (Nope, Not a shinobi thing, but you can kind of assume most "ninja" stuff is bull**** and be right most of the time, but you could also roll with it 'cause fantasy ninjas are cool, i guess.)
Fantasy: casting a spell, reading a scroll, drinking a potion.
Sci-fi: Injecting super soup into your jugular.

It's grand, grand list of things that'll be worth the simple possibility of having an off-hand work for more than just the shield. I'm sure you've got stuff to add, or maybe an argument along the lines of "wah duel wielding" (which I don't care to advocate, since it's never done tastefully in games.

Oh, and if we could make characters left handed on occassion, minds would be blown.

I'd rather have them perfecting the standard animation than adding gimmicks like offhand weapons. Too much animation creating for a minimal reason.

You're suggesting features that really dont add much to the base game, other than maybe cool animations?

I agree, it's a good idea but they would have to work on all new animation sets. The combat balance would have to be overhauled too :/

I'd rather have them finish squishing the bugs.

Maybe we'll see a mod of that

It's a great idea, and would make it real and more immersive, but implies many difficulties for implementation. They would have to do new animations and coding, opening space for more and more bugs. I don't believe this kind of suggestion will be accepted at this stage... And they want to integrate Mount & Blade to the competitive scenario for real, so the game needs consistent and "technical" gameplay. Your suggestion would make gameplay more susceptible to failure, weird variations and bugs. But maybe their new engine and modding tools will provide a way to modders acomplish that (or something very close to that).

I would love to see proper battle standards held in the left hand, freeing the right for sword fighting. As long as flagpoles are coded as pole-arms we will be limited to puny lance pennants. Big flags just look silly with pole-arm attack animations and if those are dropped, the standard bearer has both hands locked on a useless weapon making him defenceless.

Yeah that would be extremely cool. It would take the same slot as a shield, but instead of protecting you, it could bring a bonus to morale for your troops or something
