Poor game performance

When I first got the game it ran terrible, now lately it runs a bit better with performance updates and some tweaking but it's still no way near smooth on my PC I manage to play some pretty demanding games like witcher 3 and they run fine so I am unsure why this runs so poorly.

I have

8gb RAM
AMD Radeon R200 Series
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU 2.71GHz
No SSD

I play on medium graphics with shadows, bloom, grass and blur disabled and very low sound channels

If my game is poor because of my equipment please let me know and perhaps suggest what I could upgrade to if it's the game itself would be nice to know.

Thank you

well, if you have the money, I would definitely buy another 8 gb stick of RAM for your PC. These days, 8gb really isnt enough.

But youre right that the performance of the game is still quite poor in many places.

Do you have an HDD or an SSD and are you running windows 10?
What is your exact CPU (the name/model)
Do you disable certain settings (minimum sound channels, dynamic grass disabled, static shadows only) that are known performance hogs?
There are many set-ups that can potentially have performance issues but here is one combination I can confirm:

Windows 10 + HDD + 8gigs ram = Memory bottleneck. Between what W10 uses and what the game sometimes uses, 8gigs ram isn't quite sufficient. Ones computer attempts to compensate with virtual memory off the harddrive. An SSD might be able to do this fast enough to not cause performance stuttering but an HDD can't. Multiple users have reported upgrading either ram and/or to an SSD fixes this but...

That's only if your not bottlenecking your CPU/GPU.
Open your resource manager and see what spikes in usage when playing and encountering performance issues.

I updated it with what you asked, really I just want to know is this a RAM problem or a CPU problem or both? That way I know what to buy to fix it.

Can't be absolutely sure but your set up is similar to mine. I believe this is much more likely to be a RAM/HDD problem than CPU.

See if your CPU use ever hits 100% use during gameplay (use resource manager). My CPU only gets close to 100% when loading/setting up a 1000 person battle. My Disk & Ram usage gets maxed when I have performance stuttering. That's how I can be confident its my RAM/HDD issue (plus multiple forum users have attested going from 8gigs ram or a HDD to an SDD, or both, is a huge performance gain)

I get some 120-140 fps at max settings in multiplayer, but uncontrollable microstutter. Doesn't matter whether I use frame caps, V-sync, Borderless or Fullscreen, etc.

Maybe I'm just sensitive, but I get a far smoother experience in most other games at lower framerates.

I can only suggest lowering max troop count. The AI becomes resource intensive especially during sieges with high troop counts.Field battles usually aren't so bad. As suggested, get rid of shadows, interactive grass and if necessary lower textures.

Oops my bad I have a R200 not R900 like I mistyped.

And yes my CPU is constantly hitting 100 and my RAM isn't far behind tbf but it isn't quite 100

This game demands alot of RAM for some reason and it's unplayable if you have 8gb RAM for some people. If you have 16gb you should be good other than that you'll be suffering.

Check out this guide, it's really helpful and with some setlaunch options + following that guide + performance patches, I generally have no FPS drop or stutters unless it's the beginning of a big battle.

R200??? Its not the same a r9 290 than a r5 240
Well u have to see this game as a next gen console game, for medium u need a really good hardware

So if I get a new GPU it'll be okay?

Don't take any of our advice as fact. We can only speculate.

That said, if you want to test if its your GPU, drop all your graphics settings to absolute minimum but keep your battle size relatively the same. See if your performance improves. If it does significantly at least one of your bottlenecks is your GPU.

Its possible you have multiple bottlenecks. Your HDD/RAM situation isn't great - I have the same and a better CPU/GPU and have performance issues from it.

The most conclusively thing you can really do is stress test your game: Get into situations with performance issues, see whats happening on the resource manager, different settings can use different resources so sometimes you can isolate your bottleneck by seeing what combination of settings have the best/worst performance.

Don't go buy a new component cus someone on a forum sounded confident.

Make sure to check your psu is powerful enough for it and has the right pci-e connections.
If it's a prebuilt you will likely have to replace it as well to power it.
