you would've thought that they at least figured out that armour = good against archers...
oh well, maybe it slows them down when they are trying to rearrange your face with their axe.

Whats wrong with going naked? It's fun and challenging. Of course you will beat them when they have no shield.

I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield, my friend. Just try getting past my shield. (If you get my legs, I hardly care. I can usually jump out of the way of those, so...)

Yeah, I had that exact discussion with Merc not so terribly long ago. My guess was, and still is, that shield will break before quiver runs out. :P

Meh. If I can use my throwing axes/javelins to keep his head down, I think I could get there...

Unless he's on a horse, in which case I'm totally ****ed.  :P

I think it'll turn into a sort of food chain, as it were. Archers->berserkers->Sword/shield->Archers.
NOT that that's what it'd be like. I was just giving an example.

if you try to use a thrown weapon vs. a halfway decent archer, you`re already ****ed

i think the best solution for warband (and that is my opinion) is the range/melee combo

get decent ranged skills (crossbow skills require less training so you can spend a bit more on melee that way) on a decent level, and one bag of arrows should be enough, then some kind of powerfull weapon and a shield, ALWAYS A SHIELD IN WARBAND!!!!!!!

and medium armour like banded armour/byrnies and the like....

that was two categories of armor there, med and heavy...
some people already employ the hybrid style;
although I don`t think that fighting without a shield will be impossible to pull off; hard as hell, yes, but not impossible. So only hardcore players like me will fight like that

Actually hitting people on horses at a decent range with throwing axes is not as hard as it might seem and is extremely fun(ny)

I can't wait for all the smack talk to get out of hand and rip this community apart. I've tried requesting for a separate forum for the expansion (a sub for just Warband) and there doesn't seem to be much support for it. I give it a month of crap talk before things go completely overboard and we start seeing some animosity.

I'll be playing it here and there... but have NO intentions to play it more than the single player game. Not worth my time to be dealing with Counterstrike mentalities.

:D  I agree, tho it would be nice to actually play against a couple people who have been bragging about themselves since day one

Lord Shields just nailed it. I ****ing loved Call of Duty on single player, then when I tried multiplayer, it just ****ed it up. Everyone was so cheap and uh... unpolite (:P)

Man I've played it ALL. There's always a good chunk of players that ruin it for everyone else. When I played CoD (the original and UO as well as 2) I played on a Tactical Realism Unit which meant everyone I played with/against had a higher level of expected professionalism. We made it absolutely mandatory that you acted professionally to play with us. It was an elitist thing, so much as a self mental preservation stop gap. We were ensuring that our gaming time was organized, fun, and respectful.

Of course even in those environments you'll find a small group that'll try to run in and cause problems. Unfortunately I like this community, I really do... but I don't see it managing too well with the expansion. Look at the original threads (most of them deleted and the others locked) months ago where people talked about wanting multiplayer. The take was, if you even mentioned it, you were shot on sight. Those that wanted it always talked about how great it would be to trash each other in combat. Do you really think that wont spill over to this forum (the trash talk)? From my 15 or so years of gaming experience... I know it will.

I remember before games (even before the 5 1/4 disks) when text RP was the thing to do. Then AOL and the likes came out and people could use chat rooms to RP. Boy did that ever get out of hand. Lots of hatred and pissing contests. I'd like to think that wont happen here, but I've seen a lot of SP games that became MP, and went to hell in a hand basket.

All I'm saying is... hopefully the mature outshines the not around here. Like I said, I wont be contributing much to the chaos (since I don't see MP being a positive potential for this game), but I support the option of having it and support those that want it. But what they do with it will be a completely different story.

I think if you play warband as a nord or a khergit then you should be allowed to slam people in the forums as they have no history of chivalry.  But as a Swadian, Rhodock or Vaegir you should stay polite ('Congratulations on your victory, sir).

Anyways I think in Warband you'll be relying a lot on teamwork, so you'll find that aiming at that infantry's nuts won't be effective when four cavalry swoop behind you and stick a lance through your head.  I'm sure you'll find HI is a little more challenging than AI.

But I look forward to getting killed by all you guys.  Much less embarrassing than getting knocked unconscious by a khergit tribesman's stray arrow.
