i think mount/blade would really benefit from a comprehensive voice-acting dialogue. i'm actually a voice actor, and i've done a few starcraft, warcraft 3 mods, along with a couple WoW promos.

therefore, i know it would be a massive undertaking to do generalized voice files for every instance of text dialogue in the game. however, i think it would pay off greatly in the end.

i've talked to armagan about it, and he definitely plans on adding battle commands and more battle cries, but i think at least partial coverage of text dialogue would be a great move.

tell armagan what you think! is it worth the time and effort?

I don't think that it would be worth it. People are already against having rendered towns because they don't want to spend the time walking from store to store, and I don't think they'll stop to listen to some guy talking. Then again, I think that it would add to the immersive quality. Since i'm ambivalent on the issue, i'll stick with poop socks.

Even with the ten voice actors for the English version of Gothic it really helped it out. Even if it is armagan's pop and grandfather doing all the lines, it's better to have it than not have it. Though I don't know if lips are rendered right now or not.

If we're going to render the towns that just have a smith, armorer, tavern, and merchant there is not reason to render them. If it's going to have town specific stuff then yeah, render them, screw the naysayers. They all already paid!

Really, at this stage it's a moot issue, as opposed to a mute one!! When there is a actual storyline produced, then it's time to consider voices. However, I'm sure the bottom line will eventually be cost vs return/sales.

It would certainly add to the game, no question there. But only if done right. If it doesn't sound really good, then games are better without it. I still remember the first time i played the original resident evil...and hearing some of the voices. It still makes me laugh thinking about them. "Jill...run for...that...house!". Anyway, good idea, if you have the resources to do it well.

I think there is no need to add them. At least not yet. Bad sound actors are worse than nothing. And it would require some time and work and it would be better to get the game done.

But some extra sounds would be great. More music, sounds of battle, noises in taverns etc.

Sound can really help virtual characters seem more alive. It should be a lower priority than other things but hopefully there will some voice acting done before the final release.

Personally, I usually skip the voices in games that I play. It just takes too long when I could just read the text faster. Now, i'm not saying that there should be NO voice acting, but I don't think that it is needed in towns. It would be pretty cool, however, to have voices during battles, but that has already been suggested.

that's exactly what i'm thinking. it would be impossible to do every line of text because so much is randomized.

Ex: take X units of Y to city Z for a reward of DD gold.

i'm thinking along the lines of generalized statements reflecting the main idea of text box, but not going word for word.

obviously, it's a very low priorty. armagan isn't even considering it until the final build.

and don't worry about quality, i know some of the best VA talent around!

"Yes!", with the proviso that we don't have to listen to all of it, all the time. Either a "disable voice audio" option in the system config, or a way to click through and preempt the audio file.

I think it would be especialy beneficial in Zendar where there is already a walkthrough town, and a small number of additional walkthrough towns would be good, too (for instance, the Capitals of each nation) where it might be nice to have audio dialogue. eg: the Kings really ought to have voices.

If you were to do that, you'd have to give them to every person of gentle birth. Kings, counts and the constable, that's it!

One of the most appealing parts of this game for me is its file size... Many other games are much worse and take much more space. Practically, adding voices for all the characters would:

1) Take a lot of time.
2) Take a ton of file space
3) Make the server freak out when a lot of people try to download a file twice as large.
4) Make conversations repetitave (The same old phrases again and again... "do yo...""I Want to" "Do you wan""No""Are you re""I'm ready"...

Just the same thing over and over.

Maybe for a plot it would add a nice touch to the dialogue, but for everything else, some ambient city music would be fine.
