Polearm?

I've seen some videos where people are riding a horse with a polearm, just clicking once so its turned forward and when they run into enemies they hit them without doing anything. I tried that today and nothing is happening. Tried on training field, polearm just goes through target if you dont release the mouse...
My question is: How do they hit enemies with polearms just by clicking once and not realeasing the mouse (turning the weapon forward), is it a better polearm ( i tried it with one of the first polearms) , some mod or what?

P.S.Sorry for my english, it's not much better than Cem Cimenbicer's, hehe,  I hope you understood what i wanted to say

That's called couching. In older versions there was a guy in the Zendar Tavern who said how to do it, but not anymore. You don't have to click the mouse, just ride on your horse with a certain speed without touching the mouse will bring it down. To do damage with a couched pole arm you also don't have to press the mouse when you want to hit, when the tip of the pole arm hits the enemy it will damage. This is possible with all polearms

Thx for a fast answer, I'll try doing this now :$

I don't use a couched lance, too easy to take down massive armies solo. Even on 70% difficulty. Did it for a bit in beta but got really boring. Use an axe and shield with some throwing axes, still on horseback but I've had to learn to rely on my troops. U place my infantry in a line, high ground if possible with archers behind. then I lead the cavalry around and attack the enemy line. this causes chaos and spreads them out. I try to hit the archers and cavalry as hard as I can, killing horses when I'm out numbered, easier targets. I save the throwing axes for cavalry mostly just in case.

Then, when all the cavalry are chasing us, I head back up behind my line. Cavalry charges and gets stuck in my troops and I ride up and execute them. So far it's worked. My prison is full of swadian lords and my purse is full of their ransom. They are all most exterminated. Only 2 cities left. Unfortunately We haven't been at war with any one else. Is there any way to instigate a war?

Who in the world were you fighting? A Rhodok sergeant or a Huscarl can easily cut down your horse when you're close enough. Their glaives and two handed axes seem to be quite effective at KOing cavalry in one hit. That's not even mentioning the plethora of projectiles that you catch whenever you get in range of a Nord or Vaegir line.

You cant instigate a war, but you can become hostile with a faction just by attacking one of their lords or caravans

There is a quest you can do to begin a war. I fought as a nord against the Khergits, when Lord Logarson offered me a "sneaky job" to begin a war against the Rhodoks. Of course I did it, Rhodoks are so fun to fight with! Huscarls/Veterans + crappy spearmen is a match!

sushiman and tyfedo, I think you posted in the wrong thread or something. People are discussing couching with a polearm vs. using 2h/1h weapons. Not how to start  a war.
not to be rude or anything, its understandable that you post in the wrong thread.

Hehe, there's a thread about starting a war that was just after this one. They mis-dropped their posts.

If you lance enough people in the face your going to start a war.

Whaat? Conspiracy is this?

How can we both post in the wrong thread?

Someone cheated me. Or someone moved this post. I want answers!

Not quite. You need a heavy horse, with strong armour, like a heavy charger. Then you use a lance with reach of 190 or more than 200. I armed myself this way and the companions as well.
It works just fine against infantry. The couched damage in never less than some 150 points, so one hit = one dead, unless the enemy unit was lucky enough to cover with shield in time (and even then in most cases, with good speed the damage is more 200 usually). Rellying on strong cavalry makes it easy to massacre the Nords. The enemy is not all Huscarls only.

The projectiles are not that dangerous when wearing armour of 50+ and using a shield with resistance of 20, with the armour of your horse to be 65. "Received 0 damage" or "Received 3 damage", you see .

I thought you had to release your weapon to attack...

With a low difficulty "half damage" yes, it isn't hard. Try putting it to full damage and saying the same.

I though we all always talk about thing like these having in mind a reference to "standard" conditions, in this case full damage + full damage.
I only reduce the damage (for troops, not myself) if I loose a battle twice or three times (and load save again) and I really really do not want to loose it but have no patience to try again and again. Like defending the only castle I have against 6:1 numbers. Does not happen often.

I find all the infantry troops are quite prone to a cavalry attack once the formation is no more tight. The biggest problems in the open field I have is with the Khergits, they keep running away all the time and shoot... Easy to beat once you get close, but try to catch them! Bad casualties then. I have a special horse to fight them I use instead of my standard heavy charger.

No offence, Mabons, I know you are for Nords  They have the best infantry, no doubt. Still I do not find any problem to go against any infantry in the field. Heavy charger is the master of the field. Quite on the contrary during a siege though.
