Please, some tips for beginning my own Kingdom

No idea

Sergeant
I own a castle and a village, probably too few fiefs, but I am getting bored. I want to take a city and (if King refuses to give it to me) start my own Kingdom. The thing is, could you give me some tips about what to do and what can I expect when I renounce my oath? (it´s the first time I am going to do it)
One of my actual problems is that I can only have in my party 87 men. Any tips to get more quickly? (basically, tips to get renown quickly).

Thank you

Starting your own kingdom goes more smoothly if you have a mid- to high-level character, high renown and Right-to-rule, mid- to high-level companions with as many points in Trainer as you can spare from their other skills, lots of fiefs stuffed with top-tier troops, the good will of as many lords from different factions as you can gather, and as many enterprises generating independent wealth as you can manage.

Having said that, sometimes it's more fun if things don't go too smoothly!  It can definitely feel like more of an accomplishment if you can establish your kingdom while overcoming long odds, so feel free to pick and choose which of the above factors you want to emphasize and which you want to ignore.

To get more renown, fight a lot of battles, especially when outnumbered.  Winning tournaments will also give you renown.  Get married and throw a bunch of feasts: not only will your renown increase, but you'll increase your relation with your fellow vassals, which might come in handy down the road.  If you have decent persuasion (or are not averse to reloading if you get a bad outcome), take on "Resolve Dispute" quests, which give a nice chunk of renown upon completion.  You can get these by asking fellow vassals (or your spouse) if there's anything you can do to increase both your standings in the realm.  These quests generally involve convincing two lords (or a lord and the liege) to reconcile, but if you take one lord's side, or fail to convince one or the other, you'll fail the quest.  You may also, upon asking the same question to a fellow vassal, get a quest to denounce a lord to his face.  Doing this will result in you dueling the lord, and if you win the duel, you'll also gain a small amount of renown (as well as a minor amount of controversy).

Increasing your CHA and Leadership stats will also increase the number of troops you can have in your party.

I agree. Get married. Send all the companions out to get right to rule (gets you 4:cool:. Best to have high renown 800, 1000 better). Also, good if you are rebelling that your faction is at war with two other factions.

Also, remember that if you take another factions town/castle they will try to take it back. IE you are a khergit who rebels after taking Dirham, the Sawds will soon be at war with you as well as the Khergits. Best thing is to take back a town your faction has lost. IE take Dirham back form Khergits when you are a Swad and then rebel. Now, only Swads are likely to be at war with you for some time.

If you are weak sometimes the most ut of the way town is best, but one reason I like taking Dirham is all the XP you get defending it.

For any other town your advice would apply, but Dhirim is the most contested town in Calradia.  Once Swadia loses its grip on it, everybody and his limping uncle makes a grab for it!  That's not to say you shouldn't take it, but you should expect constant fighting if you do.

But that's the fun of it! Dhirim (and it's surrounding castles) is the only reason that Swadia is often at war with everyone at once (as otherwise there's no border with the Vaegirs, Khergits, and Sarranids). It makes the most effective capital city due to it's central location, and in peacetimes can become the richest town due to that, and also due to it's 5 villages.

I would say it's also one of harder towns to crack, because of the requirement to build siege towers. However, it seems that the AI lords ignore siege towers, so it's only hard for you to conquer .

As I said, what I pointed out doesn't necessarily mean that one shouldn't take Dhirim.  And the siege tower requirement can work in your favor if you play your cards right!

Yep, Dirham is a great place for XP.

As for the wait to build a tower, this can be good. gives you a chance to take out the enemy field armies. I tend to all cav armies. When I see a few enemies off in the distance I jump out and tavkle them in small groups. If the groups too big I drew them off and pick off a few, until they are no longer a treat.

As to defense if you get your watchtower up with an all cav army you can reinforce it from anywhere. Get a garrison of Rhodoks (I normall have 300 Rhodocks at various x-bow levels and 200 Khergit tribesman), with a few trained up to Sharpshooter  (maybe 20-30) and you can hold off an army of 1000 with ease. And of course once you crush their field army, go take their towns and castles.
