If you love Mount and Blade, you will love playing...

I have the Warband open beta, I am American and live in France. The few UK servers there are have almost 100 ping for me, and rule sets I'm not fond of. I'm not a fan of manual block, but with 100 ping it's impossible. So since I can't play single player and multiplayer doesn't have any descent ping servers for me yet, I would like to pick up a good, gritty medieval fighting game, based on reality. Of course the classical world setting works too.

I'd prefer no fireballs or combo moves that unleash devastating abilities. Just cutting heads off people. I have a descent machine that can run all but the newest games on high.

I have the original, you need it to be in open beta. Unfortunately I was already a bit tired of it and I find I've played through most of the game changing mods.  The ones that are left ether leaves the game to much like native or are incomplete. I've had M&B for a few years now, the graphics upgrade in Warband ruined the original for me, yet I can't really play the multiplayer. Hopefully there will be more EU servers after launch.

Unfortunately M&B is one of the only games that fall in to ""gritty" medieval fighting games "based on reality"" category.

Right now I'm studying web design, java, programming, css and html.  After that I plan on going for my bachelors in Geneva in computer science. I tried using the python scripts to do mods but it was past my abilities at the moment but after a bit more study hopefully I should be able to get it down. Then I can make what I have in mind, a gritty dark age mod with only one or two factions having stirrups. Lots of Germanic and early vikings and a large selection of armors. The main thing is I would add objectives to add a sense of accomplishment to the game. Sandbox is fun but it gets a bit repetitive.

I'd love to incorporate dark age hilltop forts and early castles, upgradable to stone and add things like forges to get better equipment. Add conscription at each castle and recruiting can be based on population of local villages, reputation of the recruiter and the upgrades of the keep. Conscripts directly from villages will be low quality and low moral, try and escape like prisoners. I'd also add slingers if I could animate it, upgradable to staff slingers. Cheap but deadly troops against cloth and leather wearing troop, the majority but a bit less against metal. Only one animation is necessary for each type, like bow users. Loading would be an animation to skip.

Good thing this is the off topic forums, I've gone way off topic. One recurring theme in the mods are they ether completely leave the medieval theme or they stick to close to the sandbox design. After sacking 100 castles, I just sigh at the though of doing more. Would be nice to do some thing else with each castle sacked, make sieges more of a time consuming investment and increase the customization of castles and the rewards.

I'd like a mod as you describe it, 1 tip though:

Dont go announcing or posting ideas for mods that you "are going to make some day" if you cant make them right now. You will look like just another tosser who wants to get people to make his mod for him

Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome.

There's a free demo. It's bird-view realistic RPG where you play the role of a German semi-barbarian free man, during the time that Roman Legions were pushing into Germania.
