Please balance the character movement speed

You start the game as slow as turtle but when your athletic skill levels up to 150, character runs unnecessarily fast. It's an immersion breaking mechanic. I hope you guys fix it.

NO! even at 200 + (yes finally did it) it's not as fast as people claim. You're still much slower and more vulnerable then on a horse! It's literally only good for chasing fleeing enemies (and some perks are okay).
It's fine for low athletics char to be slow. Man remember being a heavy armor zero athletic in warband? Was awesome

I will say the speed and formulas for getting skill needs to be changed as it's very slow compared to riding.

My game is bugged then. Cuz I tested this character speed with heavy armor, heavy shield, spear and sword but my guy runs on Usain Bolt level on the battlefield. Looks totally awkward. The max running speed must be capped. Game version is 1.5.7 btw.

It gives me anime flashbacks when in the tournament enemy runs at me with the speed of light, meeting me almost at my starting position.

I had to decrease my athletics skill to 80 via consol commands just to get a sensible movement speed. What the hell mate!

Fighting as infantry has its advantages. Yes, you are slower, but you have more control of your movements, you don't have to keep moving all the time, which means you are able to stay at the frontline and rack up kills.

That being said, high athletics definitely makes you run way too fast. The max speed should be limited.

I've never played a high-athletics character, but it's certainly true that having a low athletics in this game means that your unarmoured running speed is unrealistically slow, to an extreme. IRL, an average person (not even a physically-fit one) can run at least twice as fast as a new character in this game. And top speed isn't the only problem; all characters have a much slower acceleration than their real-world counterparts. Even the horses.

You're clueless, the max speed is capped at +10%. Try it, 300 athletics have no differences than 170.

I feel like speed and agility should be tied to something other than a skill that can only increase. Old men are the most quick and nimble fighters in Calradia. I'd love it if they added stamina to the game, which could be increased with athletics skills and perks but would become worse in old age.

Yes that's true but even at 170 athletics your character runs around like Sonic on crack, even in heavy armor. Imho it's one of the most immersion breaking things in this game.

agreed OP, character movement is too damn fast, everyone looks like a marathoner and high level/athletic troops like Speed Gonzales lol

Realistic Battles mod decrease from 6.2 to 5.2 character movement and it became so much better especially for high levels so it's possible and an easy change.

Problem isn't about the speed cap. Currently the weight system isn't implemented yet, that's why I suggested the mod from nexus. The mod has a lot more interesting features, the weight system, bleeding system etc. The mod removed speed cap, but the weight system counter balance it. You can expect heavy infantries to run slow. The best part is that it's fully configurable, so users can modify the values however they felt it's balance.

No, don't you go ruining all my infantry builds. Some of us prefer fighting on foot rather than from horseback.

Fighting as infantry has its advantages.
For sure but as far being too powerful, you're still faster and safer on a horse. If anything, for me 150+ athletics seems required for melee combat as you can actually get out of the way of multiple attackers and get into good position, circle around and hit and such.

Are you sure it not a mod or something? I don't think it's that fast, it still takes time catch up to running enemies and such. I don't take the 1st +10% speed perk though, so maybe that's it?

Right, but you can't get as many kills on horseback as you can being on foot, so I guess it all depends on how you define power.
You feel pretty fast at 50 already as you get both +10% speed and -30% armor weight.
At 100 when you get the sprint perk for another +10% speed it just gets ridiculous.

I don't use any mods, and yeah, of course you gotta take that perk if you fight as infantry.

I think the point is that animations are not that good, you can literally move in slow motion or walk in 2x speed. I'm sure this could be polished to make it more normal looking, having something like 5-6 different animations blended in smooth transitions, idle, walking slowly as if tired or carrying weight, walking normal, walking fast - running slowly, running normal, running fast.
Something like this should be possible, or maybe the game engine doesn't support it...

@MArdA TaleWorlds sorry to tag you, but if you could ask devs about this, maybe there is something that can be done about the issue.
