Playing chess.

Define alone. Do you mean with only one organic player, or no opponent what so ever?

I only play 'alone' with a computer opponent. I get bored if it is just me

Now that you mentioned it, I think I'll mean both.

I've never played with a computer opponent. I don't have a partner to play chess with, so I thought to try to play alone, but I guess computer can suffice.

Tell me about it. How do computers play, are they predictable, or are they inhumanly efficient?

Depends on the game/software you're using. I can hold my own against a computer, and win half of the games I play, yet my dad pwns me within about 10 moves.

Because he sucks.

Good computer programs can beat chess grandmasters.

He probably means Llandy with that. She doesn't have the word 'female' written on her forehead, y'know.

Because my Dad has 30 more years experience than me of playing chess, therefore he's a better player.

Plus, chess isn't really my thing. I haven't played VS a computer opponent since the Amiga days, which would be about 15 years ago.

Noughts and crosses, however.... now that's a different story.

I've got a rather lovely handheld chess computer from Saitek. The easiest setting seem to thickify the computer in such a way that it mtries to kill its own pieces, whilst the hardest setting takes about 3-4 moves in half an hour.

I play chess sometimes so I'm kinda average in it.
I normally play ether against myself (so I can find my flaws)
Or against some of my friend.

Chess! Altogether a fine board game. I used to have a friend to play with fairly often who was a bit better than I, so I was probably at my best then. I'd gladly play more, but there's no one around.

I tried playing chess with myself once. It was a very strange experience. It's difficult to play when your opponent knows your every though. I think it ended in a stalemate.
