Playerbase shrinking rapidly -10% in the last month

They also listened to us all begging them not to add custom servers or class customisation. Thanks Taleworlds nobody wanted those features!!!!!
Yep,

Had they just released custom servers at day 1 that would have probably changed our entire timeline of reality.
Instead we're in the hades of timelines or in a endless purgatory. Imagine... Many of lost souls who joined in the release would probably still be here.

But NO. *Insert all formating options*

What companies don't understand is that the forums are a place for the most critical and most interested players.

Most game companies know that but that plays into why most companies ignore them. The forums aren't representative of the larger player base.
Maybe it seems unprofitable for a company to pay someone to constantly answer a handful of entitled nerds, but in the end it's the nerds which will be their best marketing tool as long as we are happy.

Most of their sales are in the first month after release though? Only speaking for myself, but I played OG MnB on a friend's computer, liked it, never paid for it and never recommended it anyone. A few years later, I saw there was a sequel (?) out, same story with being on-and-off the game. It was only after CK2 and TW Attila and maybe GoT (it has been a long time) that I got really into Warband.

Imagine if everytime you came to clarify, you were bombarded with snark and sass. You’re going to be really selective with your responses and participation.

You don’t get one back-handed post, but a cavalcade. There is little incentive to post anything that isn’t 100% positive, void of confrontation news

Reddit AMA's.
Once a month.
Or a clear roadmap
They deliberately don't want either of it.
For God knows what reason. Right @Callum

Overall the game is heading in the direction we want it to and we are certainly pleased to be in the early access stage where players can see the progress we are making with each patch. However, we are aware that there is a lot of content, such as scenes, that are still missing and some performance issues that need ironing out, so we will continue to keep our heads down and work hard to deliver a great game.

TL;DR: Overall happy, but aware that there's plenty of room for improvement.

Probably best left to one of the game developers to answer this.

We have no plans to do anything like this in the near future.

Yes, and yes. Some already made their way into the game (e.g. conversation screen on the world map), and some will be coming in future patches (I won't spoil those though!).

Player numbers are shrinking because NO REAL CONTENT UPDATE HAS EVER ROLLED OUT FOR THE EARLY ACCESS YET. EVERYTHING AND I MEAN LITERALLY EVERYTHING HAS BEEN HOTFIXES.

Because when you type in all Caps, it makes it true. When you say everything, I only need one example for this to be a false statement.

It's just how a singleplayer game works. This number is still doubled compare to warband, and no less than playerbase of Warband before Bannerlord release; also, I'd like to say it is much better compare to early M&B EA time like 2006(can't remember exactly when they formally change the name from warrider to M&B). It's a natural trend, dont panic

-10% Gain in the last month...
Considering we are on track to full release by around march of next year I just cant see how you can pull off increasing your player count at the current rate of development.
Especially if you are ignoring the most requested features of the player base (example: custom servers and a load out system in MP)

There has to be a point where you have to pull your head out of the dirt and start fulfilling the player bases needs, we don't want your esports or skins.
The day there is a direct Competitor that actually values its players and modders this franchise will absolutely die unless Taleworlds wise up

Updating this thread since its a bit all over the place:

Yeah in retrospect I should have asked a proper question in my original post, but It was morso a quick rant about the state of development after being frustrated with how TW are handling the Custom servers thread in the MP forum. Id be satisfied with this thread getting locked if someone from Taleworlds can answer me one question:

Is there an transparent roadmap coming that clearly details what fixes and new features we will see by full release with clear explanations for why they they will/ wont be in the full release. Specifically the custom servers from the MP section and as for Singleplayer other users could suggest the main topics they want to be addressed.

If there isnt one coming... why?
no idea why not, probably dont want them to commit themselves. Its probably a terrible idea not to, because then there is little accountability.

Usually people have goals in life, you know, get married, get education, get career.

No roadmap, no pressure.

Lol, all single players have a short life cycle, is just the life of games.

Number will increase after big patches, full game release, or a good mod release.

90% of the players wont play more than 1 campaign on vanilla (and less with the actual lack of replayability due poor rpg sandbox components)
Non sense, according to sony atleast. Leaked data from 2020 shows gamers prefer single player games and spend more time offline. Quick google search will lead you to hundred of articles on the data. Unless of course you have data from hundreds of millions of players you would like to share.....

That's not contradictory at all. Just because most players prefer single player games, it doesn't mean they play the same game for 5 years, which would be a typical timeframe for a MMO player.
There are exceptions of course, for example a MMO that allows lots of solo PvE. But this is just logical considering they are GAAS, and it's still kind of multiplayer.
But nobody is going to play the single player campaign of Mass Effect 3 continually for 5 years...

SP can bring a lot of money into your bank once.
MP can give you waaaaaaaay more over time.
Take a look at LoL, CS:GO, WoW and GTA5

SP may be better for players but MP is where the money is at, all a developer or business actually cares about

It really depends on the game though. GAAS works best if you have a really big community like the type of games you mentioned. Creating new content, customer service, servers, etc. they all cost money, so it only makes sense if you have lots of players.
There is a reason single player games still exist, either because they are niche or the concept just wouldn't work well with them.

Still, you are right that multiplayer probably is most profitable under the right circumstances.

Cant argue with that. Rockstars success with gta v online changed the SP market.... in a horrible way for a gamer like me, who doesnt fancy mp online. Honestly, its not the online that bothers me... its the cost associated. I practice capitalism.... though id like to play it, its simply not worth the cost. Im sure u can find horror storries of kids spending thousands on their parent credit cards playing these games. Recently read a story about a guy who spent his whole inheritence on fifa online.

I have no clue whats typical for most but your view on the "typical gamer" doesnt suit me. My three favorite games are kerbal space program, crusader kings 2 and skyrim. All are around 10 or more years old. One is still in active development (ksp), ck2 just exited development a year ago, and skyrim, along with creation club content.... my gosh the replayablity due to mods....

Some of my favourite games are Jagged Alliance, Medieveal Total War and Gothic. They are also quite old. I don't identify myself with the typical gamer. As a general rule, everything that is typical usually sucks, regardless if it's music, books, movies or video games.

PS
Take a look at the top ten played games at Steam charts:

Well, there is no debate here.

Everyone know that single player have a really short life cycle.

Are there few persons that keep playing a game for years? Ofc, but a big minority.

Some games keep alive thanks mods? Again yes.

But there is no single player games out there that keep on the top for years, or even months. Just see the chart above this comment.

Ofc there are aswell specific games such as Isaac that offer a lot of replayability, but nobody will play for years farcry campaign.

But a Single player will never be at the level of multiplayers game in terms on longevity.

Yikes, no update in almost a month, no updated communication from TW, no news and a steep decline of another 7,3% in the last 30 days.
Down to 9K avg. players. Will the ship still be able to turn once there are more meaningful updates? Or will we continue down this path, making it a lesser relic compared to its predecessor?
