I have several surgestions for the 2 new capturable castles.These are:

1.The ability to name your own faction once you have taken 1 of the 2 castles.

2.The ability to send out your own patrols/partys.This could be acumplished by haveing another option in the castle(s) you have captured.Clicking on this will bring up the party screen like the 1 used to garrison troops castle only the troops on the right hand side of the screen are the ones in the castle and your characters party and on left are the people you want to send out on patrol.Once you have the troops you want to send out you click the ok obviusly But then YOU mark out the patrol route you want your men to follow.

3.Your own castle(s) should have a merchant,tavern,smith etc.Also you should be able to enter your keep.

4.I know hunting has already been surgested but this is a possibility of how it can be accumplished.When you inspect your own castle(s) there should be animals running about.If you kill 1 or several the meat goes to the merchant in your castle(s).You then go to the merchant and talk like you would useually but before she or he asks you that general stuf he or she goes "I have the meat from the animals for you here my lord,do you want it now?then your optuions would be yes and no.

5.Your partys and castle(s) should have a site radius.By this i mean they can reveal the location of other partys on the map if they enter a particular radius.The castle should loargest site radius so you know when there is a siege comeing up and to get to your castle fast.The patrols(if added) should have the basic radius for your characters party and any other party.

6.Enemy partys should attack your castle a they would attack another party.Then the "battle" icon pops up above the castle and the sound effects of battle kick in.YOu can then ride out to aid your castle or just leave it to get takenl.Once you get to your castle which is under attack and enter the battle you appear inside the castle next to the keep.And your archers if you have any are on the  wall shooting down at the enemies.A few melle people are up on the wall while the rest are standing inside the castle guarding the keep.And 2 are guarding the gate like the guards in a regular town.Also if stables are added there should be a few horses waiting to be mounted during battle you can issue the mount horses command to get your troops to use them.For the stable idea to be realistic and make sure people don't go "where the  did those horses come from" The should be another option in the castle which says "Visit the stables" Then a screen pops up which is something like the merchanting screen.You can place horses in the left hand side inventory from your own inventory.Obviusly the inventory on the left side would be very and only have 4-7 slots.All the horses you put in the left hand side inventory show up in the stables when you inspect the castle and are ready to mount during battle or fun when inspecting your castle.

7.The ablity to enter the towers.This could be done by replaceing the doors on the castle and makeing them open.When enter the tower there should a spiral stair case whitch you can clime to reach the top of the tower.As you clime there should be the odd little platform with a arrow slit to shoot out of.Plus all the towers shoukld have a door on the ground level so you can acess it with out climeing onto the wall.Obviusly there are doors witch enter the towers on the walls

8.ALL walls should accessible.by this i mean a staircase that leads up to the wall.like the opnes already in the castles.But add one to the walls at the back etc this will make the castle a little more realistic.

9.The port culis should be able to be opend.There should be one of those cranks which open the portculis on top of the gate house(the place where the enterance is).Also another you that shuts?opens the draw bridge for the castle which has one

these are all the idea i can think of at the moment.I will update them if i have any more.If any of my surgestions have already been surgested can you please put a link to the corrisponding topic thank you.

Those are some good allround suggestions for useages of the castle :grin:, and as such, i hope some of them can be incorperated.

Well, you might get more people reading this if your title was more descriptive, first.

Second:  Sending out patrols seems fine to me, but guiding their route...less so.  They would rapidly follow some other party.  The castles should have a merchant and tavern, agreed.  A sight radius?  How are they telling you what is approaching, especially if you are across the country?  Parties should attack the castle (and I believe they do).  The portcullis is open when you visit your own castle, and down when you besiege it.

Edit:  I do agree with a lot of these suggestions, in general.

For patrols (and travelling too) you could just use the current system, where you specify a location. But, there has to be a point built in for this to be useful. Naming your faction hints at this. We don't know what the eventual disposition of the 'cities which change hands' concept will be, but if my guess is correct, it will end up in the game. I would like to see the player able to throw aside the factions, and declare his own, and this could be a part of it. Another option would be to integrate your castle into whatever faction you belong to.

No, but if you wanted to become a vassal of the King, then it should be an option, one which instantly turns you into a nobleman (higher rank than knight) and gives you trade bonuses with all Swadian Caravans.  Besides, the King will ASK you to hold that land in his name, and then you've got a problem. :wink:

Also, if you control a castle, you should be able to demand a tax of any caravans or parties travelling through your land.  If they refuse, and you get into a fight, it wouldn't affect your standing with their faction at all:  they refused the lord of the land his due and were lawfully punished for it.
 
that sound's good, espically the taxeing part, also, i did mean that i'd take the castle for the king, If he asked me, and game me some kinf of reward.
 
good ideas Nathan90 that woul be cool if your castle became your personal city with peasants and stuff... what would be awesome is if people could try to sneak in to your castle, just like u can sneak into cities, and if they are caught you could kill them or like "interrogate" (torture) them for information (who they work for, secret loot, weak spot, etc. etc.)

I don't know that you'd be the one doing the torturing, (because if anyone found out, your reputation would suffer)
 
Another thing this would allow you to do is become a fully fledged bandit, should the impulse overtake you. You could instruct your men to raid caravan's wherever possible, and allow the raiders to split 10% of the booty between themselves as a reward, and return the rest to the nearest stronghold.

You could even get missions from your lieutenant(sp?) who's stationed at the castle. As in, he mentions rich pickings you might want to look into personaly. This could include capturing noblemen from both factions, kidnapping the merchant's freind's daughters (I mean, someone's gotta do it...) or just raiding and pillaging in general. Hell, if you get a mission to collect equipment for your men, they might get experience, and level up. And naturaly, you'd have to defend your castle against other factions who're eager to discuss the possible redistribution of your wealth.

Edit: Did I just lose the plot with this post? Ah well... Maybe I'll just resubmit it as a whole new thread.

I don't know that you'd be the one doing the torturing, (because if anyone found out, your reputation would suffer)

true true you could hire a dungeon master or something to do it for you... i just think it would be cool if you could have your own bustling city to call your own
 
With full graphic detail. Heh heh. Hey, give me a torture sub-game, and I may stop fighting battles (especially if there are cats).

EDIT: look, we all have our fetishes. If you don't understand the cats comment, just leave it alone.
 
Great ideas! I've been meaning to suggest something along the lines of starting your own faction for a little while.

I'd just like to add that it might be nice to add a time factor. At first, when you capture the castle, there probably won't be many people living there. However, as time passes, people might move to your new home and set up shop. In fact, maybe you could bring rescued prisoners here and they'll start a new life with you. Some kind of population counter could be made and at certain intervals, you get a new blacksmith, a new merchant, etc etc.

Holy crap, that's awesome.
 
Yeah, it would also be great if rescued prisoners would head straight for your castles and garrison there.
 
i have noticed in culmarrs castle there is a HUGE courtyard, which would be perfect for having people live there... you could get people (peasants, refugees, rescued prisoners etc...) to come into your castle and they will start building houses in or around your castle and you can have a tavern smithy and stable and all that stuff... i really think the battle idea would be awesome we need a scenario where you have to defend something :mrgreen: :mrgreen:


P.S. I REALLY SUPER INCREDIBLY DUPERLY HOPE THEE IDEAS IN THIS THREAD ARE USED BECAUSE IT WOULD PUSH THIS GAME TO EXTREME FUNNESS...
 
Wow, that's like El Cid - style gameplay....join a faction as a merc adventurer, capture a few castles, create your own kingdom, and then do crap...awesome!
 
Pretty much what I've been hoping to see

I suspect that some of the mods are heading in this direction.
