Play cavalry (and artillery) more often

Gabby.

I thought about that at yesterday's line battle, where cavalry was forbidden.
Except in events where the cavalry and artillery regiments are allowed, when can we play battles with our own regiment ?
The weekly lines battles don't accept cavalry and artillery units, and events are extremely rare. So except during training, battle lines with all units allowed (infantry, cavalry and artillery) are nearly nerver done.
I joined the 6th to play a type of unit and not be restricted at infantry. So I hope that we could find solutions.  :D

(Sorry for my bad English-speaking, but I have an excuse : I'm French  )

Perhaps someone could organise a Cav + Line battle every week on a Wednesday or even a Cav weekly battle ?

I'd quite like to see some more diversity in the rosters for mondays regular scrap. It would have the nice positive of encouraging the diversification of regiment types rather then the spate of new infantry regiments forming of which a large number quickly die due to competition from established regiments.

edit:
of course it would be hard on the makers of the maps as we couldn't just use random maps anymore.

I'd love to see cav regiments included in the battles, so long as they were kept limited.  E.g. 1 horseman to 4 infantry, so as not to allow overpowering cav dominance.
But I'm not so keen on artillery being used in line/formation battles...

Edit: I'd also like to see light troop regiments make an appearance, with the same restraints as the cav. :D

I play MM to have line battles, not to have the usual archer skirmishing and cav buttraping, there's enough of that in normal mode, line battles are an ancient ritual that allows only line infantry and maybe light, but not cav!

It probably just a case of specifying before hand the numbers of cavalry that are allowed; for example say theres 3-4 regiments on each side. Then the next regiment would be allowed to be a cav. regiment. This keeps numbers under control and to be fair cavalry dies very quickly to a formed up infantry regiment which is in good order. It would also allow some interesting tactics of having line infantry regiments engaging and allowing the cavalry to attack into the rear of regiments if they aren't supported properly. Which would stop regiments from sitting on their own and force some mutual support to be practiced.

You could have a formations battle and a line battle on separate days. Formations battles on Sunday and LBs on Monday?

The thing is, before the Waterloo event really. Line Battles were what they said on the tin, LINE battles. Line infantry stood in a line and shooting at each other. Now, with the now old patch coming out there is an increase in people. With Line battles becoming much more complex, back before the Waterloo event when line battles happened people using skirmishing classes or "tactics" were forced out or forced to conform, as they should be because those are the rules. But now light infantry are allowed some what, and (Personally I have never taking part in the new Line Battles and stuff, mainly for time constraints and i'm not a big fan of them) with other commanders commanding their separate regiments etc its getting a lot more complex.
Now, people are wanting more and more. Different units for example, and i'm all for this. But my only concern is the organisation the faffing around before the line battle must be quite hard to organise and get everything to run smoothly. And for a weekly thing, I think it will be quite tiring.
As I said i'm all for this diversity stuff, but maybe have a diverse "Line Battle" once every two weeks or three weeks? So on the other weeks you can ease of the amount of organisation needed from the admins to control these growing phenomenons. Unless the Admins are happy to organise them etc, then I thank them humbly.
But thats my view

Not on Mondays because most of the regiments have their training on Modays. But a different day for Line Battles and Formation Battles would be a good thing.
I agree Chairman, but why is there cavalry regiments if we can only mount on our horse during the event ?

The way the line battles are heading currently they could frankly do with a most of the organisation done before the start time. Even simply deciding who'd be commanding, and which regiments are on which side. Along with gaining a general idea of how many are turning up within organised battalions would make the line battle a simpler task to start on the day. Pubbers could then be shuffled in the first 5 minutes; and it would be much more efficient to start.

Exactly thats what i'm saying, I just think they need a little bit more time and dedication to be made to the level most people want them to be. But, expecting moderators to do this all for us every day on a monday just seems a little bit too much to ask.

If this is what the pubbers want it can happen. There's nothing to stop this happening, however in a battle with three lines of 16 per side, It's harder. If there were four regiments there'd be nothing to stop it from happening. Personally I'd support this a lot more if there were four regiments(ish). it'd make for interesting battles; three line and one light versus three line and a cav regiment.  :)

Hopefully the newly formed British and French armies can get together for some of these large scale battles at some point, (after we have had time to get ourselves up and running.)

if other british clans like gordon highlanders join the british army they'll outnumber the french 2:1, so you're gonna have to disallow lots of your guys if u want a french vs. brit battle... ain't that dandy :D "Hey uh... bob, fred, jeb and ****, we can't have you play..."  "Why not?"  "We outnumber the french 3 to 1, good thing the british army is so superior in quantity right?  Go away, form your own brit regiments and multiply our number, so that we can force even more british players to sit out line battles against the french, since they demand we have equal numbers" "**** this, I'm going Prussian" :D

I was thinking of making/proposing an event such as this anyway, i'll set up a thread as a poll and see what replies we get?

formation battles, with regiments signing up before hand? light inf, line inf and cavalry allowed.

that sound ok?

I was thinking we could set up a regular thing between our two armies. Perhaps even look at setting up some sort of campaign.
