Plan for next release

Master Knight
So, uhm, this is my effort to create a transparent way forward so that everyone knows what the plan is for the next release.  I apparently fail at communicating well so, ugh, here it is.

1) troop trees have been redone
  * equipment lists must be finalized
  * any textures for equipment that doesn't exist have to be done
  * the 'eastern' troop tree needs work, Sahran gave up on it, anyone?
  * when all that is complete it all has to be balanced properly

scripting stuff that's broken or not working well:
  * fix autoresolve, it favours certain combinations where it really should not
  * fix autoloot
  * fix minimap disappearing when you press 'L'
  * base party wages on the true strength of the party
  * fix mercenaries
  * bandits spawning in the walls, starter quest

  scenes
  * Arwa scene, defenders spawn behind the wooden palisade the attackers can't attack them

2) new recruitment system
  * no work done on this yet, some preliminary discussions but postponed until step 1 finished

3) AD 1257 v1.0 is out

In the meantime, work should continue on scenes, scene props, dialogues, music(?), map icons, additional equipment such as weapons and any other feature that doesn't affect the current code (other than fixes).

So if you're interested in helping out, jump right in.  It will be up to you to identify an area of interest and contribute towards it.  This project is a collaborative work of many different people, and that's how I would like to keep it.  There is no boss (well I still reserve the right to have some influence over the process ).  Imagine this project as a bunch of guys gathering together to have a football match, otherwise it becomes a job and you know how that goes.

i could imagine to work on the eastern troop tree, although it is daunting to know Sahran quit on it. is there any schedule giving an idea till what date this has to be done?!

Best regards

ok - to be honest i did not expect it anyway. its allright the way it is. just let me know the things that have to be done and i will start.

Best Regards

Shields like in Maciejowski bible pictures, Kuauik made a heater shield but still need a kite shields that wraps around the body and whatever else you can come up with.

Polearms, accurate polearms... research at least.

i see...as i dont have any know how in 3d-modelling (that means exactly less than zero ), I will talk to Sahran and see if I can lend a hand regarding the eastern europe troop tree.

Best Regards

Polearms, accurate polearms... research at least.
I have a Weapon Encyclopedia. It cointains polearms from the 14-18 th century. Sadly the most early polearm in the book is from ~1450. I can make a photo of the polearms section and translate the most important parts if it helps.

Aren't most of the polearms covered in the mod allready? Also I get the impresion that most polearms were on relatevely short stick, compared to the ones in later centuries. Spear/lance seems to be the most popular weapon having a long stick at this time. Then again some of those axes look more like bardiches then axes.

Oh and this is one of my favorites, an mobilized angry peasent anti-armor brigade.

But then again, i'm only a hobist and don't know much

jepp...the main problem is that there are few to zero original weapons maintained from the mid-13th century - and if, then for sure none of peasant origin. thats why we have to rely on Maciejowski & co.
on the other hand, a bill is a bill and has not changed a lot during the centuries, so using examples from late 14th century could still work

Best Regards

I found this...from the 13xx though.... but since the same tool is used in an nearly identical form today, I cant see those 50 years having made so much difference. Infact the biggest reform is machines... or guns in our case... until then a sword was always sword shaped.

yesss...i am using a bill for cutting my fruit trees, and it still looks the same...ok, perhaps not as much rust...

Best Regards

Danish (War) Axe
The Danish Axe (also Broad Axe, Dane-axe) is a weapon with a heavy crescent-shaped head mounted on a haft 4ft. to 6ft. (1.2-1.8 m.) in length.
Originally a Viking weapon, it was adopted by the Anglo-Saxons and Normans in the 11th century, spreading through Europe in the 12th and 13th centuries.].

Sparths
In the 13th century, variants on the Danish axe are seen. Described in English as a sparth (from the Old Norse sparðr) or pale-axe], the weapon featured a larger head with broader blade, the rearward part of the crescent sweeping up to contact (or even be attached to) the haft. Another development extended the forward part of the crescent.

Guisarmes
A guisarme (gisarme, giserne or bisarme) was a pole weapon used in Europe between 1000–1400. It was used primarily to dismount knights and horsemen. Like most polearms it was developed by peasants by combining hand tools with long poles, in this case by putting a pruning hook onto a spear shaft.
While hooks are effective for dismounting horsemen from mounts, they lack the stopping power of a spear especially when dealing with static opponents. Early designs were simply a hook on the end of a long pole. Later designs implemented a small reverse spike on the back of the blade.

Glaives
A glaive is a polearm consisting of a single-edged tapering blade similar in shape to a modern kitchen knife on the end of a pole. The blade is fixed in a socket-shaft configuration similar to an axe head, both the blade and shaft varying in length.
Illustrations in the 13th century Maciejowski Bible show a short staffed weapon with a long blade used by both infantry and cavalry. Typically however, the blade was around 18 inches (55 cm) long, on the end of a pole 6 or 7 feet (180–210 cm) long. Occasionally glaive blades were created with a small hook or spike on the reverse side. The modern term for these is glaive-guisarmes.

Nice stuff, but I'm afraid we already have guisarmes and the dane axe.
I must model some of them when I finish the bill.

I'll jump back onto the Eastern Europeans, I just thought that there were some who'd be better served at it than I, but I'll work with fore66 on it.

No, Kuauik, that's step 3, we're on step 1

Yes, Brador made a bill, this weapon should be in.  Other than that I'm not sure are we really missing anything?  The glaive is in, although the one from the bible is a 2h weapon, the shaft is not as long.  We have Dane axes...

The sparth exists its name in the game is 'voulge'

The berdiche should be gone, it's a 15th century weapon (although I found a mention it was used as early as 1200, and then I found info from a Polish site that says XIVth century , footmen were to approach the enemy, fire, put away the muskets and charge with the 'berdysz') and mainly used as support for arqebuises and later muskets, and only when forced it was ever used as a melee weapon.  The funny maces on a long stick, I don't know what that is...  Are they supposed to resemble a flail?  You know the tool for thrashing stuff like this:

Battage_%C3%A0_Fl%C3%A9au.jpg
This is impossible to do in Warband, can't animate weapons (I think).

I'll keep the first post updated with more issues as I find them.

thats good, cause i am on modeling spree

Are you just modeling helmets or are you able to tweak the body models too?
