Is anyone else get remined of Pirates of the Carribean on Xbox when they play this game? Combat is very similar but you can only use a sword and gun in that game and instead of horses you have ships.

The game doesn't follow the staory almost at all but the combat reminds me of this game except harder because you have to block constantly and your troops die very quickly. Plus it's all foot battles or ship battles, but boarding a ship is very fun.

That is an excellent game, and then 10X better with the community mod. I still play it about every other week.

And I think they are making another one, or something similar, Corsairs? or something in that nature.

Ohh, combat system, I think it's completly different. PoTC was more "one strike, one kill" going both ways sometimes. More difficult then M&B and also more frustrating. Even at level 15 on that game I felt like I could still be killed with a loaf of bread.

Aye they are. Seadogs 2 was reportedly turned into PotC, but in reality SD2 was put on hold and was being written for it was used for PotC. The real Seadogs 2 is underway again and has been renamed to Age of Pirates.

I liked PotC, even though it relies a lot in onfoot combat, which IMO wasn't the greatest there is.

I never played it that much. I installed it ... played about an hour (or less if I remember correctly) and it joined the rest of my games soon after. :???:

Should I try and find it and re-install it? Is it a good game and I just didn't give it a chance (wouldn't be the first time)?

I heard it was a good game. I bought Sea Dogs 1, and liked it, although it was VERY buggy(the pirate campaign was entirely unplayable without a patch). I had a friend who bought PoTC after seeing SD and he said it hardly ran on his pc because it was so buggy. Crashed every 5 minutes. I suppose some of this was fixed with later patches, but even still, after seeing how crappily programmed SD1 was i never purchased PoTC. I know for a fact that they pretty much abandoned SD1 and most of the patches/improvements were made by fans. So my question is, did they fix this in PoTC, or is it still crashy as hell? Otherwise i still have to say, if its made by akella, run!!!!!!!

My PotC for the PC crashed right when I was finally going to win a battle, just like Sea Dogs did. I never looked for patch. The X box version would be more stable I suppose.

Umm...I´ve tried to play Pirates a couple of times, but found that I really couldn´t be bothered playing it through  Maybe it was the dancing thingy that made me lose interest ? Anyway, I had high hopes for the game since I always liked his games in the past -maybe I was expecting too much ?-. I think that that game boring and too repetitive, so it´s placed together with those games I´ve bought and only play when I have absolutely nothing better to do (and the cat is already fed). But it had nice graphics...
Btw. I also found Rome Total War boring after a while (not as much as Pirates though - I can still play it without to many yawns)
I might add that I never used any mods in those games, maybe that would make a difference ?

Games I do like (apart from M&B) are - to mention a few only:
Might & Magic (up to M & M 7)
Planescape Torment
Deus Ex
Morrowind
KotOR I (KotOR II was...yep...boring -to much Disney feeling ?-)
Civ. II & III
...the list could go on, but that would be...boring

Hi Greyhawk, do you like Mountain Blade? I mean Mount and Blade.

Hi Sir Saladin, indeed I do ! Of course there are a couple of things that could be better. BUT I´m well aware of this games betastatus, and after all...when did one play a beta that has this good playability and -furthermore- hold so much promise ???
...and I eagerly await every update...a bit of a christmasfeeling

PoTC with the comprehensive Build 12 mod by the community is a great game and absolutely nothing like the game as you got it out of the box. If you have not played it for a few months (or years) I would highly recommend trying it out again with the mod which can be found in the Files section of the Pirates Ahoy website here http://www.piratesahoy.net/ The community modders are busy with another huge Build 13 mod which will appear soon. Age of Pirates and Pirates of the Burning Sea (MMoRPG) are new games that will be appearing this year.

I did a few quick little mods for PoTC when it first came out. Nice game that you can probly find for cheap now. The community has improved it very much since release.

I'm also really looking forward to Age of Pirates and Pirates of the Burning Sea.

Yes sirree, Build 12 made Pirates of the Caribbean an amazing game in additon to eliminating (for me and most it seems) the dreaded Crash To Desktop but more than that it added quests, fixed quests, just added tons of improvement. I've enjoyed it a great deal since. See http://www.piratesahoy.net/

Sid Meier's Pirates! is my near favorite pirate game because it has that open-ended nonserious gameplay that I favor: I play to gain what I feel like winning and not to finish someone elses campaign. When people say it can be repetitious well to each his own  but you know that could be said of EVERY game: whether it be HL2 or Age of Empires or Starcraft or even our beloved M&B. (Seriously, I've killed thousands of pirates, bandits,Dark Knights, etc. If it's walks or rides, I've killed it.)

I'm a pirate type fan. I just finished Tropico 2 Pirates Cove which is a sort of Settlers-style city builder with pirates - no player-controllable pirate combat though - a completely nonserious lightweight game. I enjoyed it, finished three looong sandbox games but now I'm moving on. .

Mount & Blade has such an entertaining style right now, that it makes wish that elements that I've loved in these pirate-themed games was incorporated into it: some goal, some reason to keep fighting.

In Port Royale 2 you could gain lands and title based on your success in governing the colony; it made what is at times a too business-oriented game (instead of a pirates and pirate combat) worthwhile for me; I could play it differently striving for different goals.

I love pirate games.

However, Mountain & Blade kicks their combined behinds!
