Pirates of the Caribbean mod (using viking DLC)?

Recruit
IDEA:
Using the viking DLC's ship combat (of which I think is far better than Blood and Gold: Carribean's) I'm looking on making a sort of pirates of the Caribbean themed mod. The basic idea will be players creating a crew through recruiting companions etc and then recruiting troops. I could go complex or very basic on this but for now i will keep it simple. There will likely be four factions: Pirates, British Empire, Spanish and perhaps (If i do go with the pirates of the Caribbean movie theme) undead pirates (or also referred to as cursed pirates). There is a lot one could do with this in terms of adding factions/bandits etc. And of course custom ships like the black pearl etc.

Anyways I've spoken to someone on the forum about this (probably in the wrong section so i just wanted to put this here). I'm new to modding and I've been told that getting guns to work on a vikings DLC will require a lot of hard scripting (that will take many hours). If anyone is interested in making this (even as the primary mod creator) let me know. I really want to create it just so I can play it myself. But of course I would release it if It was half decent. I am doing a Game Design course so I'm not a complete noob to game creating.

In terms of all of the armours etc... A lot of the stuff from blood and gold AND fire and sword will work well.

Cant you copy guns from Napoleonic wars? I think they match era. Literally just copypaste.

You may not copy any assets from any Game or DLC to another unless otherwise specified by the developers/owners. On this forum we also do not permit the use of mod assets without the permission of the original creator. Naturally, this only matters for projects you intend to release to the public.

Your idea requires months, if not years, of work to be good. If you have that dedication, start out with reading the modding introduction and begin work on small aspects. If you encounter specific problems and the documentation (see tutorials) cannot help you, you are welcome to inquire in the according topics, the Q/A sticky or to create a new topic for more complicated issues. It is very likely that people will only join/support your project after you have done a significant amount of work. Everyone has their own ideas and nobody wants to risk wasting their work on a project that is unlikely to finish.

Months/years. Christ. Wait so... just to create my own map... get guns working on vikings DLC. That would take months/years? I could use armor sets from DLC's/the game and not release it... if that meant saving lots of time. But i have a feeling the scripting is what takes up all the time.

Nah basic stuff like that won't take that long. However, you need to place parties on the maps and have scenes for them, you also need to assign them to factions and make these factions behave sensibly [and create trade routes, and assign trade goods, etc.]. You need ships and cannons that aren't in VC and make the AI use them sensibly. I.e. anything that is actually enjoyable and interesting to play will take long. Especially, because you need to learn the module system and other tools (that in itself can take 1+ months).

Any of the larger mods for Warband has been in development for years.

I recommend if your not up for the task, posting it on mod ideas, because it's a good topic, and some advanced modders may be able to take the project on.
