Is it really necessary for recruiting the lords?
I have a renown on ~1400 and high honor, but I have not yet started to build my kingdom (Nords are my first target). I don't want to take my first castle and have 10 lords show up against my modest force of 50 huscarls and companions.
I want to know if i should dump precious points into persuasion (i have 1 point in there) or is it reasonably easy to recruit lords by simply improving relations with them?

I think Persuasion effects pretty much most of the dialogues. People will believe you 'n stuff faster when it's higher, so I'm pretty sure a Lord would join your faction a lot easier when you persuasion is high.
